Now the question is:
How good is it?

That is what I'm waiting for. I'm waiting for signifigant differences over ext3 and benchmarks against it.

According to wikipedia, extents are the big feature. And NTFS already has extents. Catchup again. Hooray.

I was wondering this too!  I meant to post it, but I must've been distracted.

In any case, let me know what you hear, Newby.  ext3 works pretty well for me, but I'd be willing to give ext4 a shot.

While we're talking about it, I thought this was neat about NTFS:

Quote from: Wikipedia
Recently, a new beta GPL opensource driver ntfs-3g[3] driver has been developed and is being tested by the linux-ntfs team. This driver is based on ntfsmount with extended support of directory index operations and at the moment offers "unlimited file creation and deletion", but it is not yet tested in the field. Upon successful testing code will be merged back into the ntfsmount. According to the developer, this userspace driver is twice as fast as the kernel ext3 driver (which is the native linux filesystem) and is 10 times faster than the commercial Paragon Software driver.

*whistles*

Yeah. NTFS-3g is beta though; I wouldn't trust it with my life.

That's how I feel about ext4.  I'm going to sit back and let the first generation of ext4 users test it out and discover any problems.  Then I'll feel a little better about using it myself. :)
