Nope, this was the real thing. That guy won like a total of around $2,000,000  pre-taxes.

It's maybe a year old, now, but it's still neet.

I had a question on a math competition based off him. It went something like Ken's evil twin Doug went on Jeopardy. In one night he earned the maximum possible number of point. How much did he earn?

Could you really answer that question? I mean, there are three (maybe two) "Daily doubles" and  depending on when you got them, it could make your score much differentally. Like, if you got one right after annother at first, you get to wager $2,000 (minimum wager for daily doubles.) then you'd get annother making the total $4000, but if you got them as the last questions you'd have a lot of money.

Maximum, this would mean that he got all the questions right every round, chose the maximum to daily double, and got the daily double at the end of round one, and the two in round two consecutively as the last two questions. And then, he got the final jeopardy question right and wagered everything again. I forget what the answer was. All I know is that I got it right at the time, and it was an interschool test meaning it is twice as annoying and more complicated than the normal tests. And some of the questions don't even involve math.

Doug might not have been the real name in the question. That was just the first name that popped to my mind.

I see. The daily doubles are the only things that threw me off. Silly "Maximum Possible" claus.

I thought the question was stupid too. This question now that I think about it was on the interschool test for the state competition in 2005 (april 2005.) So, it was even more confusing to me since I hadn't watched Jeopardy much in previous few years and I knew that they increased the value of the questions just not by how much.

The MAO Interschool tests have some questions that aren't math related at all.  :P

Definitely true. Where are you from? I know MAO is national but if you were in Florida they'd be even more similar.

It depends on where the DDs are!  If they are 500/1000 pts, that's cool, but usually they aren't.

Maximum would imply they are worth the least. The question asks for the Maximum Poissible.

A rake is an immoral pleasure seeker?

Yup,
Quote
A rake is a stock character, a man who wastes his (usually inherited) fortune on "wine, women, and song," incurring lavish debts in the process. The rake is also frequently a cad: a man who seduces a young woman and impregnates her before leaving, often to her social or financial ruin. To call the character a rake calls attention to his promiscuity and wild spending of money; to call the character a cad implies a callous seducer who coldly breaks his victim's heart.
That's from Wiktionary, but I also use the "Rake" character class in T&T.

Guess I'm too much of a young whipper-snapper to recognize you old geezer's slang. :-\

Haha, just kidding.  I can honestly say I don't think I've ever heard that used before.

Me and a friend I asked had that come to mind first but I think that for jeopardy it is a very odd question. Techniclly Ho(e) and Rake were both correct answers although I've never heard "Rake" used for an immoral pleasure seeker.

Haha, the only place I've ever heard it is in AT&T, which was written(ish) by my friend's dad.
