Title: help on picking a character
Post by: Omen on December 28, 2006, 03:05:50 PM
Well I've had a Warlock which is badass at PvP. And it really is because of fear.  ;) But now I'm rerolling with a few friends/family members and I can't decide on a race/class. Alliance is the faction. Thought of remaking a warlock but I don't feel like redoing all that stuff I've done already. Going for a caster, I hate melee. Have any ideas?

Priest?  A shadow priest is really fun to play, it also has "fear" ( Psychic Scream ), has DoT and can heal  :P

Yeah, that does sound pretty good. I've been playing on my somewhat twinked hunter. Pretty fun, but I'll probably be lvling it up soon. Getting tired of 10-19 brackets.

Shouldn't the answer be obvious? ;D

Being a Priest will ensure you a spot in just about any PUG (Pickup Group).

Haha, so true.  If you show up in shadowform, though, there are usually hissy fits. >:)

hah, I think I'm going to lvl up on my hunter. I'm tired of getting 1st in every WSG in the 10-19 bracket.

Are you on a twink-heavy server?  When I played my twink Warrior on Maelstrom, it was nearly always a Rogue or Warrior in 1st.  I was very often 1st on my 49 Rogue twink too.

Hunters are pretty fun, though.  I have a level 21 (which I don't ever seriously play) and I really enjoyed grinding.  However, let me tell you how awesome it is to be wanted in 70% of PUGs and even more structured raids when you get to 60... very.

I notice hunters topping damage charts all time.  When I was grinding AB in the 30-39 bracket I noticed that the majority of the time hunters and warlocks were topping the damage charts.

That's PvP, not PvE.  Of course ranged people will out-damage melee in PvP.  There's no aggro. :P

It's not impossible for a hunter to top the damage charts in a PvE raid (ie: BWL, Naxx), but it's definitely much more difficult if the other classes are trying.  It probably becomes impossible when the other members are trying really hard too.  I'm not bashing on hunter damage, but that's pretty much how it is.

I was more or less referring to that.

The default order key is killing blows, isn't it?  I was first on the list when that's what it was.  I still would be if I hadn't leveled. :'(

Shadow Priests are fun.  I haven't played a Paladin, but they seem good.  There isn't really a "sucky" class or a "godly" class in WoW.  They all have their uses and are superior in various areas and inferior in others.

What do you mean? Warlocks > * Fear. dot dot dot. Fear. Death. I usally get the warlock down to 20% health before I get feared and he rapes me.

Why does every plight you encounter that involves recommending a class result in a conclusion that is based completely around class vs. class duels? :P

In raids, Warlocks are rarely at the top of the list.  They don't have stuns.  They don't have stealth, they wear cloth and they can't (directly) heal.  Like I already said:

Warlocks can get 1st if they try... :P I have a stun now, and I get healed every once in a while :P (30% I think when my shadowbolt hits or immolate/conflagrate)

You wouldn't pass anyone if they were trying as hard as you.  The stun is a chance, yes?  I said "directly" for a reason.  That's not completely under your control.  My flash heal button is. :P

I'm not saying Warlocks suck.  I'm saying they're not the best class.  I don't think there is one and I'm really sure that's the way Blizzard intends for the game to be.

Paladins are great IMO. You're a lot better than other classes, until it balances out at 60. Once it balances out, gear is what you need. I loved being a healadin in PvP. You basically live forever, while keeping the other classes around you alive forever. With the right strategy, you can kick any other class' ass, with the exception of a priest and certain druids.

I know they aren't the best. No class is. But I have an AoE stun now... does about 500-600 damage and stuns for 2 seconds

I dont know what druids you have trouble with becuase Healdins would own all druid specs. I might have a chance in feral I time my shape shiftin and healin right but restros are crap and Balance the same story.

Well I decided to go with a mage, as my final; and to leave my hunter as a twink. Since most of his gear is twinked I am afraid to move up and not get good gear for the next bracket.

I didn't see druids too often, so I never had a chance to really practice dueling them, I guess.
