Title: The HD format war is OVER...
Post by: Newby on January 11, 2007, 06:29:29 PM
Adult film industry chooses HD-DVD (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/11/213258&from=rss).

Good game to Blu-Ray. ;)

The funny thing is, that's not entirely humorous.

Porn was a huge victory in the Beta vs VHS war.  Plus, Sony tends to create a product, charge a lot of money to license it, and end up making nothing.  They keep doing it, and they'll continue to do it.

I'll support DVD's till I die, though.  There's nothing wrong with DVD's except that it's too hard to copy-protect them.

Even when their capacity is relational to a 5 1/4" floppy back in the day? :(

DVD's are lacking for those of us with HDTV's.

/agree.

I won't stop supporting DVD's until they can make HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players more affordable; $400+ for HD-DVD player and $500+ for a Blu-Ray player is ridiculous. It's simply not worth it to me or anyone I know.  Also, from what I've seen, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movies are usually around $30 when they first come out, but a normal DVD is only $20 or so.

I don't really care about the viewing experience that these formats offer.  Until they get the prices down, I'll sit further back from my TV; everything's in high definition from back there.  :D

Agreed.  In other news, I just bought a PS2.  That shows how little I care about cutting-edge. :)

Time Warner might keep it alive.

They're supposed to release "TOTAL DVDs" with BluRay on one side and HD on the other

You need an xbox 360 for it.  As most people do not have an xbox 360, they'd have to buy one of those.  ($300 + $200) > $400 last time I checked.
