When it expires you can pay the subscription fee again and get back whatever you had. It just becomes locked so to say.

I suppose you could refer to blizzard's elua as a set of rules and refer to breaking them by saying it's illegal (though I think it's more sensical to say "against the license agreement"), but I don't consider selling an account "illegal."

I doubt it's wrong. You paid for the account, you worked for the character, you found all the gear - it's yours to sell.

I'm absolutely sure that selling an account (or buying one) is against the Blizzard ELUA. It's definitely not against any state or federal laws, though, so I don't see the harm in trying to pawn off an account if you're sure you won't use it.

You can only transfer characters between accounts with the same last name IIRC.
Man, John Doe and Jane Doe must make a lot of WoW transactions then!
