I just flipped through the TSA site for permitted items and what not and just want to make absolutely sure that I am able to take a carry on + laptop bag.

QuoteCarry-on baggage is a small piece of luggage you take onboard the airplane with you. You are allowed one carry-on in addition to one personal item such as a laptop computer, purse, small backpack, and briefcase or camera case.
I understand that I can, but I want to be sure none of you all have run into any issues.
I will be leaving from El Paso Int'l, hitting Dallas and then off to D.C. @ Reagan Int'l. Leaving Wednesday, returning Sunday.
My Carry-On would contain my nicer clothes (suits, blazer, slacks, shirts) my laptop case would contain laptop, iPod cord, book, iPod, headphones, pencil
Yes, you can.
A pencil? Are you planning on stabbing someone with that? Terrorist!
In any case, the last time I flew, laptops were no problem. They made us turn them off when the plane was taking off and landing, but other than that, you can use it at your leisure. That very well may have changed, but the last time I flew was April '05 to/from Grand Junction, CO from/to Phoenix, AZ.

okey dokey.
I just want to be uber sure about what I can/cant bring
I dont plan on using the computer in flight, too much of a hassle/lame battery life to watch a film. SO, I'll read and jam with my iPod
Yeah, it's a very wise idea to carry on all that stuff. Some airplanes have internet capability in them now, don't they?

wtf?!
whoa, maybe I'll pay yall a visit from a few miles up
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw a commercial on the plane we were flying on that was advertising the ability. I'd imagine it's something you have to pay for, but it's still interesting that they've added it.
I accidentally brought some weed with me when I flew to California a couple months back. I'm surprised they didn't catch on... but yeah, it was hidden in one of my keychains. I had two condom keychains, both of which had covers, and I had little bags in there. I completely forgot about them, lol.
Edit: I DO NOT encourage anyone to do this.
I suggest not bringing your iPod (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html;jsessionid=32DA4C09BEB07855088A6F20EBB8C4DE?topicId=11211166&sid=1) :\

Yeah that should be fine. I've flown 7 times in the last two months. I don't check luggage unless I'm going for more than 5 days, in general.
On my carry-on luggage, I pack my clothes, my mini-shampoo/toothpaste/deodorant, razor and an extra cartridge, toothbrush, phone charger, and typically my camera (since I don't plan to take pictures on the plane). In my "personal item" I keep my laptop, laptop cord, and iPod.
My g/f teases me when I come to visit her because she says she'd pack an entire suitcase with just shoes. I hope not (she's coming to visit me in a couple weeks).
I LOVED that iPod story. :)
The Wifi may interfere with their controls so you might get some restrictions on that. Other than that, I'm sure it's all good.

Any electronic device has the potential to interfere with their controls, which is why they make you turn them off during take off and landing.
That and they don't want all kinds of shit flying around if the wheels break off or something.

HAHAHA
I've heard lots of stories about people accidentally bringing on restricted items, including a 4-foot sword (http://www.dallasobserver.com/blogs/?p=1829). Just don't act nervous, I guess :P

Hahaha. Whoops!
This is on a tangent, but when my friend from high school (who was a foreign exchange student from China) was going home, he had to ship the Katana his hosts bought him for his birthday. He put the wrong phone number or something on the package (which included the Katana along with a few other belongings he didn't have room to pack) and it ended up getting shipped back to the return address. By the time he got it, the bill ended up being $500 or something.

I have my 2 suits, blazer, slacks, 3 dress shirts, 2 pair shoes (not including tennis shoes I'll be wearing), 1 pair of jeans, a couple of tshirts, and one nicer shirt aside from my dress shirts. + camera, cell/pda/camera chargers, God knows what else.
...I leave wednesay afternoon & return sunday night...this is a lot of clothing for my to have in a carry on, its a lot of crap period.

CrAz3D: Do you have a garment bag or is this going in a suitcase? If you're putting it in a suitcase I suggest investing in a garment bag (but be prepared to spend around $130...at least I think that's what mine was.) You'll probably be able to fit most of your stuff in it (definitely suits, ties, shoes, blazer, shirts) and they won't get all wrinkled in stuff. The only downfall is you won't be able to carry it on as it'd be too big I think. Don't quote me on that since I'm not sure, but I think it would be.
...the ear whistling thing is "is my head empty"
I have a garment bag that came with suit...its gonna hold the 2 suits & blazer/slacks. That'll be my carry on.
I meant one like this:

So wait, you're supposed to put your suit in a garment bag, and the rest of your garments in a suitcase?
if that's correct (I've never heard of a garment bag before), it's funny how language evolves (a suitcase probably was originally intended to carry suits)? :)

yeah I guess. maybe suitcases were used before we had the modern day type suit, I don't know - it is interesting though.
garment bags fold open and you can place like suits, overcoats, dresses, etc. in there so they won't get all wrinkled and move around and stuff.

Ok, that's what I figured. I only have one suit, and I've never traveled with it, so that has yet to become an issue.

I never even thought of that!
...stupid language.
I meet on campus at 2pm tomorrow to head out for airport ... I'm still awaiting the arrival of my shirt & jacket while still needing to buy a matching tie once all of that gets here!!! :o
UPS said I can call them in the morning and ask to have the package set aside for will call (and explain my situation so that they're more compassionate) & get it after 10am. The UPS tracking system thing says it ought to be delivered to my house tomorrow ... sometime, sometime just not being good enough for me :(.
YIKES
woah you're having a jacket come tomorrow? I hope it fits...

I know what size I needed, I tried on other colors @ the store...just a matter of it getting here.
BUT, just in case I went and bought one @ Men's Warehouse just now + picked up a shirt & tie...looks nice (just not sure which tie to wear w/ it...they all look pretty good)
