If you're going to get something for making websites, get Dreamweaver. It's what most professionals I know use.

If I actually did want to make something like SMF, I actually would use Notepad and test frequently with Firefox. I don't like WYSIWYG editors because that code is extremely sloppy and a pain in the ass to edit a long time after the making of the website. Even when I was working at a web development company, I was using vim for all my Web page editing. I never had a problem doing complicated layouts with a text-editor. I actually found it easier because I knew exactly what everything did, so if there was a weird problem (like an extra gap between elements), I was much more likely to be able to track it down. If it was something tricky, I would often make all the different areas brightly colored, which would visually show me what was going on.
But anyway, the rest of the guys at work used Dreamweaver, which is why I recommend it. Text-editors aren't for everybody's needs. :)

Certainly, I recommend Dream weaver, I just write in the code portion, I never use the design mode, I'm just extremely forgetful and it helps to have a little menu pop up with options.

I agree that it is unnecessary to use an WYSIWYG editor most of the time, but to develop a complex layout, it's totally asinine to tinker with the HTML in notepad until it looks okay. Yeah, I guess it makes sense. However, I've never taken a class that deals with web design, so I've invented my own conventions.

I have always heard it as "What you see is what you get." I deal with people that tend not to use acronyms unless it's something redundant, like "GNU," or "WINE."

I hate it when people pronounce acronyms phonetically. It sounds dumb. It's not hard to say G-N-U, or whatever. And the first time I ever heard someone pronounce "SQL" as "Sequel" I was throughly confused. That said, I do usually break my own rule when it comes to GUI.
"Sequel" is definitely wrong, I only ever use that one when I noticed glazed-over eyes when I say S-Q-L.
For Gnu, I just like pronouncing leading G's :)
According to wikipedia, it's SQL for SQL and mySQL, but it actually is pronounced sequel for microsoft's SQL server.

That's interesting. I've heard plenty of people say "My Sequel", and I'll continue saying "Microsoft S-Q-L" server, though. To hell with Wikipedia's proper pronunciations!
(I've had to spell "pronunciation" three times today (four times counting that one), and I spelled it the same wrong way all three times (at first). You'd think I'd learn!)
