"next-gen MMO"
Sounds pretty intense... World of Starcraft? World of Diablo? Something new?

I could too, except
lead engine developer is really uhh.. what's the word.. drastic (!) for a simple expansion.
Star of Diablocraft: Brood Portal.
Worlds of Starcraft would be awesome, and last time I talked to someone at Blizzard about it, she said that they thought about it, but there were a lot of details they'd have to work out for it to be possible, one of them is hiring a lot more employees. :P

StarCraft Patch 1.15
We will be releasing Patch 1.15 for StarCraft within the next few weeks. This patch introduces new functionality to Battle.net that allows players to organize and join custom StarCraft leagues. These leagues support stat-tracking, custom icons, and replay uploading, among other features. Check out the StarCraft LDK page for more information.
An MMO is not going to be free. Heh.

I don't see a Starcraft MMO game, it just doesn't fit the style I don't think. ;\
Probably finally Starcraft Ghost!
Starcraft 2's gonna suck,... They can't possibly beat Starcraft, the best game ever.

Guild Wars?
No, a good MMO. As in one that's actually enjoyable and filled with content, actively updated with content, and home to 8 million subscribers. That's the kind of MMORPG I'd pay for.

If Blizzard makes another MMO, people will probably start switching from WoW to the new MMO. That's lost profit.

The new Starcraft I believe is going to be an RTS not MMO. What they should do is make another expansion for WoW in the upcoming months.
--SPOILER---
I think the new one should have to do with Northrend and Arthas. They already introduce it since when you click out of the map from Azeroth and show outland you can see an ice cap at the top of Azeroth.

My understanding is that an RTS can be an MMO... just not an MMORPG.
MMO usually is defined as a lot of people playing on one server at once. RTSes are split into games of smaller groups of people.

But it *could* be a persistent world, with everyone playing on the same server at once! It would suck and be stupid, but it could be.

Ok? I was responding to the post where RTSes can be MMO's. The idea has been tried and tried again in concept over and over again by Game developers who think they have the latest and greatest idea.s They have all proven to be impractical or near impossible to implement in a way that the game still is fun.
It would be interesting if somebody came up with a way to make a MMRTS work.
My friend from high school was talking about one, I'm pretty sure. I forget the name of it and how it worked, but if you're interested, I can ask him the name.
The next expansion will most likely include Northrend. Also, on that image, they show the entire Azeroth Face, not just the two continents and Northrend - The rest (Undermine, etc) is just covered up by clouds. :)

And to Blaze. I thought Undermine was the little island off the coast of Tanaris. Also Panderia is the island cluster at the top of Eastern Kingdom.

Undermine is located under the island "Kezan" which is south of the Maelstorm and not shown on the current WoW map.

ZeroX, they said you won't be able to fight Arthas until level 90. They may very well increase the cap double this time, but I'm more sure we'll have to wait for the third expansion before we fight him.

I've read (some of) the Warcraft books, I research Wowwiki, I've watched the behind the scenes of both Warcraft and The Burning Crusade, and finally, I read everything about Warcraft in general.
No, they said you wouldn't fight Arathas as a level 70, you'd be far too weak.

Read the books. Researched WoWwiki. Never watched the behind the scenes. All I know either that the next expansion will include the Naga homeworld at the Maelstorm and we fight Queen Azshara or Northrend with Arthas.

So, it is a good guess that "the next expansion will include the Naga homeworld at the Maelstorm and we fight Queen Azshara" ? Seems more like some wishful thinking to me.
I want to guess the next expansion will include the Emerald Dream World, mostly because I remember looking through the textures of WoW, and the Emerald Dream World was the next most developed area.
Oh, the Emerald Dream has been done for at least 6 major patches... textures/developed wise. Just needs NPCs/stuff to do. :)

Guild Wars is a horrible game. I played it for a bit, and thought it was too much like Diablo 2. It's horrible!
I hope it turns out to be Starcraft 2, or something. That would be great!
Or I've even thought that a Starcraft FPS would be really cool, too. Something like Battlefield 1942, but with Starcraft, and on different planets, etc. And along with it being a first person shooter, it should be an MMO at the same time. Wars going on in real time, all on the same server, and in a vast world/universe. MMOFPS.
It wouldn't be like "oh dude, let's go create a melee game!" It would be like, "hey, let's go over to that one clan and shoot them up." Like to make a clan, you'd have your own piece of land, and a building that you could go into... kind of like a channel. Except this would all be in-world, like WoW. Personally I think that would be the coolest game ever. They'd get my money if they made a game like that.

They could set up differnt time zones and have Netural places that you can go upgrade your weapon and buy more ammo at. But that be too much like an MMORPG and not FPS.
It'd be an MMOFPS. The concept of an MMOFPS is good, it's just lacking proper implementation.
It would be cool if they made something like a combination of rts and fps. Like how war3 had way more usage of heros, maybe they could do the same with sc2. You could switch between playing like a normal rts or build a hero and go into first person mode.
No. Heroes should not appear in an RTS at all, except in campaign mode where they are usually a mission.
Why not? To be honest, I think it makes the game more interesting.

haha! But seriously, that's one of the main reasons I didn't like War3 (besides the 3d aspect.. I never liked that in RTS). I can't really explain why, but I just think that they add too much complication.
Starcraft heroes are the way to go, in my opinion. Characters that are important to the campaign that follow you through.

Well, at least I'm not alone in that part either. I think that the UI and how you interact with a game are the single most important part of making a good game, as that's usually why I end up not enjoying games. For example, I've always liked the games in the command an conquer seiries, I started playing the first game in 1995 when I was like seven... I like all of them up through red alert 2, but since C&C generals and now C&C 3 came out, I haven't been able to really enjoy them. It's not that they're bad games, but I just hate the UI and the 3D look/feel that it's enough to keep me from enjoying it. And it's not just RTS games either... the Fallout games are some of my favorite games of all time, but one of the reasons I like it so much is because of how the game feels to play it, it's just something I've never found in another game. So yeah, I'm not sure if I would be able to play a 3D starcaft and enjoy it like the other one, or a 3d diablo type game for that matter.
Warcraft 3 was done well, if a Starcraft RTS is like that I'd play it.
