Title: drivers for laptop volume buttons
Post by: trust on May 06, 2007, 09:22:14 PM
I have a compaq presario v5000 laptop.
I installed Vista on it but didn't like it so I didn't buy it, the trial expired and I finally got around to formatting and reinstalling XP. Well since I installed XP myself many of the drivers were missing. So far I have everything working (main things were internet/sound) but the volume control buttons at the top of the keyboard still don't work. I can't find anything on the compaq driver page about them, and the only google search returned some guy being able to get it to work on Linux by setting the keyboard layout to microsoft pro 150.

Any advice would be appreciated, it's a pretty significant annoyance.

IIRC you're looking for this (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-38774-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=499847&lang=en)?

I really need to fix this because it's making my volume control all FUBAR. Like master volume doesn't control anything, only wave volume and to have it at a bearable sound you have to have it almost at 0.

Do you still have the discs that came with the laptop?  One of them should be a drivers disc.

<offtopic>Microwave it! The cools sparks are about the only thing those are usefull for.</offtopic>

Isn't there a way to map those keys to volume up/down? Its a bit silly to need drivers to use a keyboard button. :\

At one point I made coasters out of them. (glued stacks together)
