I'm toying with trading my truck in on an 05 Mustang GT.
$22,350. 37k miles. Premium (shaker1000 sound, 6cd, 5spd, grey leather).
FUN to drive! Toodled around town and averaged about 21 ish (about 7 mpg better than my truck) and about 24-25 on the highway for the short stint I did.
Insurance for truck: $788/6months w/$1k deductibles.
Same ins. for Stang is $773 or $832 for the $500 deductible (if I were to finance I'd need the $500 ded I spose). (this is all at StateFarm)
Just got a quote from AllState for $480/month ONLY me listed, I almost laughed. Lady is callin back with a quote for my mom and my parents' truck in addition to me driving on the Mustang.
At, what appears to be, and average of maybe 6mpg more, that's, oh, 10000mpy/14mpg(truck) = 714 gallons
10000mpy/21mpg(car) = 476 gallons
714-476=238 gallons * $3 (which is low) = $714/yr "savings"
So I GUESS the car could 'pay for itself' in a while (, again.) but I'm not sure of the utility factor, yet.
If the insurance is cheaper, gas is cheaper, I don't know that a truck is useful enough to keep.
Whats the trunk of these things like? The back seat fold down so I can have longer items in the car?
(The periods in my title are ... just for Sidoh)
I'm not sure about the Mustang, but most cars' back seats fold down. I've been able to fit 8ft lumber with the trunk closed, and 15ft open (though that was a pain) in sedans (again, not much help since the Mustang is a coupe). Anyway, '05 Mustangs are ugly.
I like the new ones :-[
ANYHOW, after more thought, I don't think I'll do it.
Truck is paid for, Mustang would cost me another $3-5k from the trade-in. Truck has more utility and is already highly customized and I can do larger tires and gears for less money some time next year.
I'll save for a while, graduate, see what my investments do, and then maybe upon graduation buy an 08 GT or just see what's out in May of 09.
Oh well, spose it was fun toying with the idea

Finally, someone else with good taste.
New Mustangs look like complete ASS. :-[

You mean someone who agrees with you...
Why the fuck would you ever drive a Mustang? It's not fast, has bad gas milage, and looks terrible. On the same note, why in the hell would you ever own a truck? If you're GOING to get a mustang, at least get a 5.0 and put some decent work into it. A sub-12 second daily would gain attention from me, not some shitty '05 GT.

No. It's common knowledge that the new Mustangs look like complete crap. ;)

I had a 5.0 for awhile, GREAT car.
Sorry for the double post :-*

The truck was used more when I got it. Now I just do a lot of city driving. Once I move from here to go to law school I'll definitely drop the truck for something else (probably a Mustang or similar sporty car).
Right now the biggest deal breaker is the utility of the truck. I can go anywhere (almost literally), carry 6 people and a crap ton of stuff. It is very nice to have when moving/helping people move, going camping, off roading is fun too. In a Mustang I can go fast and get better gas mileage, about 6-7 mpg better in the city, I figure.
re: a 5.0Stock for stock, the new 05 is faster and more efficient. Yeah the 5.0l is cheaper to buy, cheaper to mod, but it also looks like a pile of shit that my dog wouldn't play with (and he likes to play with his own crap). The Fox bodies are boxy, square, dull, and just a very "80s-90s design" (everything from that era sucked design wise).
Man, I'm so close to saying no, but the thought of it just won't leave.
If I buy in a few years it'll be close to the release of a redesign (figure 2010 or so) and then I'll have an outdated Mustang or a really outdated truck. The plus is, my truck has stopped depreciating fast, for now. I suspect it'll drop once the 2009 F150s come out (slight redesign for that year as I understand it).
I dont really use my truck except for camping (which I can still load the trunk down with) and sometimes offroad (we have bonfire parties, sometimes, that are in the desert. But not frequently enough to justify keeping a truck).
I'd be losing $500/yr for about 3 years with the Mustang (assuming I take out a loan and don't just make up the difference with cash)
Turns out, as I calculate, I'd save near $822/yr by having the mustang (this is before I take into account that I have a car payment). ($68 per month savings)
Now, maybe I can take out a $5k personal loan using my investments at StateFarm as collateral and get a good rate, pay maybe $130+ per month for 3 yrs?
As it seems, I'd be able to drop $60/month from what I know spend (I might be able to do that on beer alone )
SO, provided I can get a good rate with StateFarm tomorrow and talk to the guy about the car price/my truck trade-in in a few days, I might be drivin home a sweet GT tomorrow/wednesday
Bah, I just talked myself back into it, again
If you want to go for a Mustang, don't go for an '05. '06+ FTW.
The new models are a lot better.
05 is the new model ::)
Mustangs suck, 2003 VW Passat 4.0L 8 cylinder W8 ftw.

I disagree. My dad owns a 2006 Mustang GT Convertible and it's great. Sounds really good too... :)
+ I bet it's a lot better than a VW.... ::)
He also owns a 2004 GMC Sierra... which he is thinking about trading in for a 2007 Ford F150. I don't like the new GMC Sierra models and neither does he...

It sounds great? Does it have flowmasters on it?! DOES IT HAVE A LIFT KIT? YESSSS!!!
::)
The stock stangs sound pretty decent.
I would've gone with a Magnaflow catback, maybe a couple of Flowmaster 50s had I bought the car. Maybe something with even more sound and highflow cats with an X pipe

Agreed.
Also, if you're a fat arab kid that goes to my school, and you drive your brother's, and you decide to do a burnout coming out of the parking lot and lose complete control, chances are pretty good that you'll end up wrapped around a giant geyser of water spewing out of a fire hydrant, and on top of what used to be a fence around a church.
