Title: EasyTech
Post by: Krazed on July 29, 2008, 03:59:28 pm
So, I'm the resident computer technician at my local Staples for their EasyTech (http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/easytech/) program. The website doesn't list really what we do, because it's super out of date. Basically we do everything from Memory, Software, Drive Installs to Virus Removals and Data Retrieval.

My problem is that these customers come in for virus removals and it's really a free-for-all for me to get them off, since Staples really doesn't provide me with anything. So what would any of you guys really recommend to be a great tool for this, maybe if you know a pre-boot virus removal tool that would probably be my best bet. It's fine if it requires subscription or to be bought, I just need some ideas. Basically right now I use a variety of anti-spyware tools, norton tools, and some free anti-virus programs.

Reformat!  But seriously, I've never had too much trouble with things, but you could try a LiveCD or something of DSL so you can remove/fix infected files without booting to Windows.

Yeah, booting off a live CD (or a linux memory stick) and running an up-to-date scanner from there is probably a good idea, since malware tends to be extremely good at hiding.

The new Spybot S&D does a type of preboot scan.
