I'm not really looking to crack it but it seems like that might be the easier option at this point. After changing my motherboard and CPU I need to reactivate windows but I've used up all my activations. Easy right, just call up microsoft. But what installation ID am I supposed to give them exactly? (http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8643/fuwindows.jpg) I'd rather not spend 3 hours on the phone with someone who can barely speak English, does anyone know if there is any way to get that ID to appear or am I outta luck?

My vote is to reinstall Windows.

If I must go that route, I am going to make sure to download a "fixed" version of windows. There is something about being locked out of software that I paid for that is very unappealing to me. Fuck DRM.

My vote is to fuck Windows and install Linux ;)
If you go back to Windows, I'll accuse you of beaten wife syndrome!

I would, I really would. But it's a lot more like the guy in that heroin story you posted, except with world of warcraft instead of heroin. I don't have enough confidence in myself to keep it working in wine or the like, and I can't go without my fix.
Anyways, I now have a version of windows installed that won't give me shit. I spent about 4 hours on google before I decided to give up. I tried a bunch of shit from people who seemed to have similar problems but none of it worked. Thankfully though, I found out I could boot into "safe mode with command prompt" (I had tried just safe mode before and it didn't work) and back up all my stuff easily.

If you can boot into safe mode with command prompt, make sure you're running as administrator and then type:
slmgr -rearm
That should get you by until you can call their support line to get a new activation key.
