Title: Sad story about sexuality
Post by: iago on November 17, 2010, 10:40:42 pm
I just read this, and it's depressing. Thank god the world's changed:

Quote
I grew up in a small town, in a devout Catholic home, and I had no clue there was more than one kind of sexuality. I had thoughts and feelings I didn't know what to do with, but I don't think I'd ever heard the word "gay," much less knew what it meant.

I'd had sex with girls, but I didn't have my first experience with another guy until I was 18. I was at an ex-girlfriend's party, and it wasn't pretty; everyone was bombed or high. Except for this older guy: late-20s, maybe 30, somebody's brother. I knew he was looking at me in a way that men weren't supposed to look at other men. We got talking, realized we both hated the party, and agreed to go for a walk in what by then had to be the wee hours. We were in a big deserted park, grass, bushes, streetlights, when he turned to me and I thought, "He's going to kiss me and I'm going to throw up." He did; I didn't.

I was so awkward. I had no idea how to do the things my feelings were prompting me to do. I knew I wanted to top him, but didn't know that word or how exactly to get there. He was so patient and gentle and understanding. This is not a story of a teenage kid being preyed on. I took the lead; he guided. He never pushed anything. He helped introduce me to myself.

He lived halfway down the East Coast, but he kept in regular touch with calls and long affectionate letters, checking in on me, listening to me, reassuring me that whatever I felt was okay.

Not everyone felt that way. This was almost 40 years ago. When I got comfortable enough to tell my parents I thought I was gay, they had me committed to a mental hospital. That's another story, and not a very nice one. I was there till I was 21 and could legally insist on being released. Shock treatments, megadoses of Thorazine. I don't know why I didn't go truly nuts. I think a big part of it was the memory of that kindness and that closeness, and the rightness of it, for me. I lost a lot during those years locked up. I lost track of that wonderful guy who'd been just what I needed when nobody else understood.

I never had a chance to thank him, so I'd like to do that now, and maybe imagine he's reading this and remembering too.

I don't think parents exercise that amount of assholery anymore.

Good story though.  Very sad.  It's really quite pathetic when people behave this way.

Wow, that's beyond your 'gross' threshold?

You must be an incredibly boring person... :P

I think I agree with iago.  I find it strange that the idea of gay sex is "gross" to you.  I'd definitely understand if you said it wasn't arousing, but not gross.

Well, it's not significantly different from people saying, "I want to sleep with her" or similar.

It is a pretty funny way to put it, I've never heard somebody word it quite like that before. But "I wanted to fuck him" or "I wanted to sleep with him" don't seem significantly cleaner, so I'm not sure how else you'd put it.

Trust is a conservative republican. The only way to put it is:
"I originally wanted to fornicate with this male compatriot, but the good lord Jesus Christ, in all His power, managed to turn my hellforsaken soul onto the path of purity and chastity until I meet my one true female."

Conservative Republican means squat.  A better description would be a social conservative.

Seriously, though, I haven't watched a TV in a long while.  It's much more convenient to watch shows online.

Yeah, I tend to download full serieses and watch them all at once. But without commercials/etc, I don't even know what other shows exist..

I'm working my way through Battlestar Galactica right now, which I have on DVD. After that, I might start on Babylon 5. I've never really watched many of the sci fi serieses, but I feel like I should..

If you think about any sex from the "right" perspective, it is all gross.  I mean really...you're putting your most prized body part where someone else expels waste from their body?  And what about oral sex?  WhyTF would you ever want to do that?  I love it, but if I over think it?...yeah

It's all about perspective, mang.

Babylon 5 is great.  The graphics are so terrible they made me uneasy, but the plot is fantastic.  It plays out like a really long movie.

Battlestar Galactica is like a soap opera for men.  It was okay, but after a while I think the overly contrived drama turned me off it.

And it's only the most prized part of your body because it's used for sex.  Weird? :S

I don't see why any of that is 'wrong' or 'gross'. It's only our puritanical roots, where somebody at some point decided that anything pleasurable was evil, that has ruined it for us. It's taken hundreds of years to get to the point where people can enjoy their natural bodies the way they want to, without feeling bad about it.

And that last bit is the most important - people have had anal sex (both gay and straight couples), oral sex, and all kinds of stuff for hundreds of years, while feeling guilty and thinking they were doing something wrong. Thankfully, the world's coming to its senses these days, and personal freedoms have become more important than our nonsensical 'traditions'.

So yeah. :)

I'm not thinking from a "sex is evil/the devil" standpoint, I'm thinking from a sanitary standpoint.  Would you go lick a urinal?  Probably not...so why would you lick the body part that emits that waste?

Nothing about the groinal area, on either gender, is sanitary. Front or back. Inside or out. Sex is dirty.

??  For once I think CrAz3D is making a reasonable point and I'm confused why you're arguing with him, when you seemingly agree.

I think sex is enjoyable, but when you think about it objectively it is weird.

I don't think equating oral sex to "licking a urinal" is apt. Calling it 'weird' is.. well, weird. I mean, there's nothing more natural than eating, drinking, excreting, and mating. The enhancement and enjoyment of any of those (whether it's cooking food, creating toilet paper, or using different orifices) is an extension to our most natural needs/desires.

Generalizations are probably the most effective arguments in your arsenal, however, so I can understand.

I think Dr. Cameron from House has a great insight:

Quote from: Super Hottie Doctor
Sex *could* kill you. Do you know what the human body goes through when you have sex? Pupils dilate, arteries constrict, core temperature rises, heart races, blood pressure skyrockets, respiration becomes rapid and shallow, the brain fires bursts of electrical impulses from nowhere to nowhere, and secretions spit out of every gland, and the muscles tense and spasm like you're lifting three times your body weight. It's violent. It's ugly. And it's messy. And if God hadn't made it *unbelievably* fun, the human race would have died out eons ago. Men are lucky they can only have one orgasm. You know that women can have an hour long orgasm?

"Megadoses of thorazine"

Can do this to you.. (http://www.sntp.net/drugs/thorazine.htm)

Do you think this story was fabricated to garner sympothy for homosexuals? Yes I agree the story itself is sad, but I also think being homosexual is a sort of mental illness. Not one that is harmfull to others, but it's not really natural to feel sexually attracted to the same gender, your brain and society are supposed to make you feel comfortable with loving the opposite sex, and being homosexual is a dysfunction of this process. Again I don't think it's a harmfull problem and the homosexuals should be treated differently, they just need to find thier love and sexuality with others who are homosexual and they can lead a normal life like anyone else in every other way.

I made a somewhat comedic topic about lap tops overheating and it got 31 posts in a few days, and you call that stupid shit? Are you the forum's quality control manager? I was just trying to get back into some discussions here but some people still won't let go of the past.

You'll get over it. But really I'm having a hard time finding any reason to post here anyway, so you won't have to worry about it.

You have no right to say that to anyone here.

I wasn't here when the whole GameSnake drama was going on, at least I was not a Clan member at the time, so all of this is goes above my head in terms of care-o-meter.

The only things I know about GameSnake are from hearsay, the most memorable of them being that he was a mod on the FleshLight forums!  Lulz.

I do think however that we should at least attempt to behave with civility towards even those who have sinned against us in the past publicly (in the public forums), lest we ignore them completely.  Simply for the sake of outside perceptions, despite what little outside perceptions are probably made about our small community.

But I'm a bit of a passive aggressive kind of guy, and if I gave a rat's ass about GameSnake being here, I'd probably set up a clandestine campaign amongst my fellow clan members to boycott posting in any of his threads, lobby against replying to any of his posts, and just advocate in the shadows to completely ignore all his forum activity, eventually leading to his discontinued participation on the forum... all while giving the impression that his presence here doesn't bother me.
