Finances permitting.

If I could score a ticket/invite/whatever they have to Blue Hat, it'll be much more likely (I can justify it as a work expense :) )

Mostly due to the fact that the internships I've done have been close to some x86ers.

Agreed. I try to use "whom" correctly, but I'd rather fuck up on the side of "who" instead of just throwing around "whom" to look like I know what I'm talking about.

That said, I was watching Big Bang Theory reruns a while ago and observed Sheldon correct someone about grammar usage. Then he said who instead of (what should've been) whom. oh television.
I like the first 1-2 seasons of Big Bang because it was fairly intelligent. Now it's like most other shows. + shitty canned laughter.

I still think it's fairly intelligent. Maybe it's gone downhill a bit.

I noticed a while ago that Sheldon claimed the atomic clock sync tower was in Boulder, CO when it's actually in Fort Collins, CO (http://www.ntp-time-server.com/atomic-clock.htm).

I truly do enjoy that show. I'd like to think it's my physics background that makes me enjoy it, but you don't need much of one to appreciate most of the humor. Sheldon is also one of the greatest TV show characters to grace television. Just saying.

I hate BBT. I really really enjoyed season 1, and to a lesser extent season 2. Now it's just every nerd stereotype with a myriad of character inconsistencies (one episode Sheldon will strike a realization, the next he's back to being a wad). Also, Sheldon pisses me off. Cute at first and then just annoying. :\

Modern Family, now that's good comedy.

When I watch TV/movies for entertainment, I don't try to look for stilted dialogue and caricatures of characters, but they stand out so much in BBT. As far as characters go, there's only so many times I can watch people be living stereotypes before it becomes ludicrous.

Fair enough. It doesn't bother me, though. This is perhaps because I'm quite convinced that many people like Sheldon (the greats in scientific fields) rarely do a good job of avoiding stereotypes.

laugh tracks are lame as shit. studio audiences FTW. also, I still laughed out loud during parts of that clip.

and while, yes, sheldon goes from douche to "human" to douche in the next episode, one has to remember that this is television. one also has to remember that real people do the exact same thing, so it isn't too absurd for someone to be nice one day and a dick the next and then nice and then a dick and then nice and then...you get the point

Modern Family, though, is probably the best primetime comedy/sitcom being produced.

guess you dont watch Tyler Perry stuff. if a white dude made a show (or 25 different shows about the same thing) about black people being stereotypically black, there would be race riots (much like there currently are as a result of the whole Taryvon Martin thing).
TV shows have stereotypes because stereotypes are real traits and people identify with that (ie reality)

Lawyer stereotypes: substances abuse, argumentative, arrogant, disregard for "right v. wrong" over winning.
Me: check, check, check, check (and an ish too all of those, but yeah)

stereotypes are real in that they are an over-generalization of things, but are nevertheless a generalization of things. stereotypes are true as can be.

All canned laughter sucks. I absolutely hate it. I don't need a television show to tell me what's funny, I can decide that for myself.

I think it's good that someone is presenting the "black" side to television, and clearly there's an audience for him if he's been that successful financially. It disgusts me how every major motion picture, unless it's one that historically needs a black person (see: slavery films, gangster films, etc.), has a 'white person [or will smith]' leading role consensus. If Perry helps erode those walls, then I'm all for him. I just find him uninspired and not funny.

I'll admit that I like the characters in Modern Family more. It's a quality show, and I can recognize that the writing, acting, and production of Modern Family is superior in quality. I just like BBT because it's a show about nerds. Even if I think it's ridiculous most times, it still tickles me in a way most shows never could.

You're missing the point entirely. There are black actors in Hollywood, I never disputed that. My point is that the movies where black guys are cast for leading roles can be broken down as follows: historically necessary (e.g. Denzel Washington cast as the historical black gangster in "American Gangster"); action heroes (e.g. Samuel L Jackson as Mace Windu; supporting characters (e.g. Morgan Freeman as God, or Lucius Fox). Very rarely are there movies that feature black guys in leading roles, even if race has absolutely no part in the story. Will Smith is the only exception.

<edit> Also, you seem to be making a point, then qualifying it so much that the point is totally useless. "There are no black guys in movies except the following huge list of exceptions, ..."

<edit> Also, you seem to be making a point, then qualifying it so much that the point is totally useless. "There are no black guys in movies except the following huge list of exceptions, ..."
You misunderstood completely. I'm saying there is a very finite number of exceptions in which current Hollywood films star black people. Your average movie is not going to have a black lead. Let's look through the current movies in theaters: http://www.imdb.com/showtimes/
The movies I see starring blacks (though this last will probably vary based on theaters near you):
Marley - a documentary on Bob Marley. Falls exactly into the category of "needs a black man for even a shred of legitimacy"
No One is Safe - an action flick starring Denzel Washington
Tyler Perry's Good Deeds - a story about a businessman and one of his office staff
Think Like A Man - a pg13 rom com

I count 4/48. Of those, I say 3 of the 4 could be written for either a black or white lead, with the obvious exception being Bob Marley's documentary (because who the hell would go see a documentary about Bob Marley starring some white dude?). Of the remaining 3, I contend the last two matter more because those roles tend to require better acting ability. So the number of films in which a black person is cast to be a leading actor is quite small. Even if you remove all the remakes/re-broadcasts, animated films, historical films,  and movies based off books, the number of movies in which white people are cast as leading actors is much greater.

Code: [Select]
neato -Tpng -o meet.png meet.dot

fdp seems to be better since towelie and while1 have an edge (rather than touching).

You should add nodes for everybody else who's never met somebody, just lonely isolated nodes. We can call them the "loser nodes" :)

Okay, gotta add a whole lot of new connections:

I think that's all the new ones without repeating old ones :)
