General Programming / Re: Crack Me!

The point of cracking a program is to make it work.  Why would I do something to the program the author told me to if I could get the same results with 50 times less work?

Because most crack me's and such are designed to show off a specific method only. Of course real application author's are going to use a combination of methods and be much more concerned about a totally secure program.

Even then its stills not really cracking. I.E. Even if you protect both strings I can just overwrite parts of your program to make it execute code to print joe sucks, there is plenty room. However, this has no real world application as in most programs you want the code you are injection to actually interact with the real program.

Uh, this isn't any sort of protection. You need a hex editor, hell rabit replaced the "Try hander." instead of the Data string.

Now now Sidoh, we wouldn't nuke them first. After all America could use a place to permanently store nuclear waste. Whats better that slowly killing the enemy with radiation poisoning and cancer?!

So like I gave this guy a rose at school today. The guy took the rose and was leaving when our commander walked by and commented on his rose, then another kid pipes up that zorm gave the rose to which our commander replies "I don't even want to know."

*note: the rose was acquired from a girl who didn't want it.

General Discussion / Re: Video is new big thing on the internet?

This is just a case of he has $$ invested in companies so he can't tell the truth.

However, I believe video is going to be one of the next big things on the internet. A suspect we will see "tv channel" like websites offering downloads for a variaty of shows on that channel. The only question is how they will find a way to make money off it.

But anyhow being internet based will allow for them to have a huge selection of shows for people to download and watch. Older episodes and cancel'd shows can be made available for download whenever a user pleases instead of based off a network tv schedule.

The only problem with this is if something really takes off the internet will end up being flooded with horrible amatuer shows comparable to what most of the podcasts are today.

General Discussion / Re: The miners were rescued

That was an example -- find a statistic for how many people every day are murdered in the US, or killed by guns, or whatever, and I'm sure it's more.  I'm just making a point about the media blowing stupid things out of proportion.

Yes, its simply because the media needs a new story to cover and talk about. This happens all the time with some notable examples being the Scott Peterson case and the Cindy Sh...whateverthefuckhernamewas story. One station picks a story and everyone else decides to follow suit in covering it. Most of the stories they cover aren't newsworthy, but they happen and get randomly picked to be covered.

In any case, as cruel/blunt as it might be, who cares about 13 people?

More people than that die of starvation every minute, but I don't see you crying about them.

The difference is the are Americans and not some filthy Asian/African. Get a clue iago.

Quote
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MyProjects\uptime\Debug>uptime
System uptime: 2 days, 13 hours, 18 minutes, 12.46 seconds.

Code: [Select]
#include "stdafx.h"
#include "windows.h"

int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
int miliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days;
miliseconds = GetTickCount();
seconds = miliseconds / (1000); seconds = seconds % 60;
minutes = miliseconds / (1000 * 60); minutes = minutes % 60;
hours   = miliseconds / (1000 * 60 * 60); hours   = hours % 24;
days    = miliseconds / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24);
miliseconds = miliseconds % 100;

printf("System uptime: ");
printf("%u", days);        printf(" days, ");
printf("%u", hours);       printf(" hours, ");
printf("%u", minutes);     printf(" minutes, ");
printf("%u", seconds);     printf(".");
printf("%u", miliseconds); printf(" seconds.");

return 0;
}

That sucks because it will wrap at 49.7 days IIRC. Fix.

General Discussion / Re: Google PC?
« on: January 03, 2006, 10:51:07 am »
I think the idea of a 'cheap' PC is way overblown. It might be cheap but it won't be worth using in the long run. What happens when the word processing mom decides she wants to play a FPS and kill some fuckers? She has to go and spend even more money to buy a real PC which should have been done in the first place.

As for hardware/software cost in a computer, it doesn't really matter if the software cost goes away. The hardware will be sold for the same price because people are already willing to pay that much for it. Much like how the Indian gas stations here sell gas for the same price as the non-Indian ones.

I was more curious than anything; I didn't intend for it to be a competition.  But sure, you can own me if you like.  As long as I get to sleep in your bedroom and use as much of your bandwidth as I like.

Sure, sure, only because you lost. You get to sleep outside with the thing that eats from the garbage can btw.
