General Discussion / Asus eee pc laptops
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:17:00 pm »
Hello, I'm looking into buying a new asus 1000ha eee pc. I really like the fact that they are so cheap, but I am worried that I will sacrifice important features, for a lightweight frame and an inexpensive computer.

Part of the thing that concerns me is that I have noticed that some of the websites have confusing, and often wrong information. For example, this website says that it has a 160gb hard disc drive, and later says it has a solid state drive.

I also just read that the 1002ha has wireless 802.11 n, and bluetooth. The 1000ha has wireless 802.11 b/g, and also more battery life (about 1/3 longer; 6600 mAh, versus 4400 mAh)

The computer also doesn't have a disc drive, I'm not all that concerned about that, 'cause I was planning on getting an external drive for when I need it. But, do you think that this computer's BIOs would boot from USB, or even a USB CD drive?

What are your thoughts? Are the features like bluetooth, and wireless n really that important? Would most modern day routers let the b/g connect, as well as the n?

Unix / Linux Discussion / Slackware 12.1
« on: December 03, 2008, 02:11:14 am »
Hello, I was wondering if any one has used slack 12.1 yet. I just downloaded the DVD .iso the other day and have been fiddling around on it for a while. It seems a lot like 10. I'm sure there's a difference, I didn't care to look for it.

What do you guys think about it?

Unix / Linux Discussion / iMac (G3 heap of crap) PPC Ubuntu
« on: October 24, 2007, 09:33:19 pm »
Hey. A friend of mine bought an iMac from good will for $50, took it home, then phoned me to ask what was up with it. I went over and saw it was running Debian (not sure what specific ver.) I fiddled with it, only to find X wouldn't work, so I popped in my Ubuntu disc (5.10 PPC) and tried that. It installed correctally, and loads the OS fine, but X still wont load. It just goes to a black screen. What should I do? My thoughts were check the version of X, and see if I could get an older one, perhaps the video card wont handel this version.

I'm not an expert, well, I'm more so a novice, so I came to the people that know ever thing; X86 (hopefully PPC is well known here, too!)

What should I do, any tips, or tricks to find more information so I can be more specific?

Thanks, Guys. (Girls, too. If Ergot's gotten that opperation.)

Trash Can / Re: Which book should I read?
« on: March 19, 2007, 10:46:57 pm »
I'd say none of the above. Read "Grow Great Marijuana: An Uncomplicated Guide to Growing the World's Finest Cannabis".
There's a quote that you should pay some mind to, because I'm sure some people will think more highly of you. It's this: Even a stubborn fool is thought to be wise if he keeps silent. He is considered intelligent if he keeps his lips sealed.
It may be a proverb or some thing, but whatever.

My point is that you're smart when you speak on toppics you know about, and when you have something worth saying. I know people appreciate it when I do it, and, the same will most likely go for you too. You always say that you don't care about our opinions, but, please just take this into concideration. I'm not trying to be offencive, but somethings you say are just sort of dumb, or like not that important. When you say just random shit, it makes you seem like an attention whore; not that you are, but it's just a simily.

Unix / Linux Discussion / Debian + mouse wheel
« on: February 22, 2007, 04:30:20 am »
I feel dumb, but I've looked on the google and asked Erogot, too.

Here's what my problem is: No mouse three, and no scroll wheel. Poor me. :(

Here's what's in my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 for "mouse":

Quote
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier      "Configured Mouse"
        Driver          "mouse"
        Option          "CorePointer"
        Option          "Device"                "/dev/psaux"
        Option          "Protocol"              "PS/2"
        Option          "Emulate3Buttons"       "true"
        Option          "ZAxisMapping"          "4 5"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier      "Generic Mouse"
        Driver          "mouse"
        Option          "SendCoreEvents"        "true"
        Option          "Device"                "/dev/input/mice"
        Option          "Protocol"              "ImPS/2"
        Option          "Emulate3Buttons"       "true"
        Option          "ZAxisMapping"          "4 5"
I know that there's two mice things, but I'm not really sure why so I'll mess with that later. The thing that gets me is there is a "Option 'ZAxisMapping' '4 5'" part, as far as I know, that's usually the scroll wheel and mouse three.

Any help would please me. <33 :D?

Entertainment District / Hannibal Rising
« on: February 19, 2007, 05:18:56 am »
I saw the most recent addition to the Hannibal series tonight. It was alright, I wasn't expecting much and it didn't let me down. There were some cheesie props, but as a whole it was alright.

The main way that I had kept this film worth while is the group I was with would switch seats each time some one died. We hopped rows and ran accross the isles. We didn't even disturb any one, there was just two other people in the theater, and they were sucking face.  So, that 6:50 showing I was at had a grand total of 8 people there. It has to have been an epic.

Too bad he didn't genocide your race, deadly. But.. you know, that wouldn't be alright. Jews are just fine.

I'd write out a nice big explination for saying this, but I don't have enough time. Regardless, you're a fucking retard. Your mental age is the same as your physical age seems to be from your stature in the few photos of your ugly face you've dared to show: 9 years old.
Genocide isn't a verb. You can't "to genocide" some one.

Unix / Linux Discussion / Renaming all the files in a dir.
« on: January 13, 2007, 08:52:21 pm »
Hey, I'm needing help renaming all the files in a directory. I have a lot of pictures in a lot f different folders that are named 01.jpg 02.jpg, etc. and I want to move them all into one folder. There in lies the problem. The files all need to be renamed, or over written. I have a lot of files to rename if I do it by hand and I hoped that you may have a better idea for me to try.

I'm running Slack 11, with the bare.i 2.4 kernal.

What I'm trying to do is just like .. mv /file/dir/01.jpg /file/dir/prefix_01.jpg but with everythig in the file. Would this work:
mv /file/dir/*.jpg /file/dir/prefix_*.jpg ?

General Discussion / I have a question about Magnets
« on: December 19, 2006, 11:00:35 pm »
I have been looking into this for a week or two, and I have yet to find anything. I figured the best area to post it would be here.

Well, here's my question:

This website: http://unitednuclear.com/magnets.htm sells magnets all rated at "grade N40 or higher." That is the grade of the Neodymium in the magnets. I was wondering if any one knows if the scale that they are graded on is Logarithmic or if it's linear.

Babies aborted for not being perfect

"The ethical storm over abortions has been renewed as it emerged that terminations are being carried out for minor, treatable birth defects. Late terminations have been performed in recent years because the babies had club feet, official figures show."

Read article...

Haha, searves those fucking babys right. Not every one can be perfect like me!~

General Discussion / Has any one heard of this?
« on: May 14, 2006, 11:00:17 pm »
Has any one heard of this "Net Neutrality" thing? As far as I have heard it's a bill trying to make it so the large ISPs can't [basically] censor the internet. I'm not the most well read on this subject, I was just wondering if any one else has heard of it and what their takes are on it.

http://www.savetheinternet.com/ That's where I heard about it from.

Please, either correct me on what I've said, or tell me more!
