What do you all think about it? Do you think it was treasonous?

Academic / School / Majoring
« on: December 13, 2008, 07:38:29 pm »
With college season in full swing, I've been thinking a lot about what I want to major in. I was wondering if anyone out there can see the viability of triple majoring. Specifically, I want to major in Mathematics, Economics, and Computer Science. This isn't in reference to any particular college, but do the curricula intersect frequently enough to make this possible? If it's possible I am prepared for the consequences (no social life whatsoever, perpetual studying), but I want to know exactly how long it would take to get the needed credits. While this is partially about a future career, I truly love all three subjects and I don't think I could go with one alone. So basically my question is: does anyone have any experience with triple majoring (or even double majoring) and would wish to share some advice?

Thanks.

As with Sidoh, I really enjoy learning new things and discussing with intelligent people. I like learning in class, I enjoy reading books of all kinds; math, physics, literature, you name it. However, that is not what I'm fucking talking about. I could give less of a shit if you want to remain stupid and if you feel that people who enjoy learning aren't living life. It's complete bullshit to relate a social life to a thirst for knowledge, and you can't assume that if someone likes going to school (by the way, I hate school) that they can't "live life to the fullest" or whatever bullshit excuse you're (talkin' to you Maddi) using to remain ignorant. What I'm saying, and what you'll probably not realize until its far too late, is that there is a ceiling to the happiness you'll derive if you choose to stay stupid. If you think sitting around partying with your equally unmotivated friends in your lower-middle class home and doing whatever the fuck you want is great, then do so. However, I assure you that someone like you will not stand a chance to someone like Sidoh, or Ender or I in the same economic standing. You don't have to care, but its a fact that you cannot deny. Being rich and powerful may not make you happy, but it sure as hell will help a lot. Furthermore, those with a modicum of knowledge will surpass those who choose to take the easy road in life. I will become your boss, and I will be the source of your life's worries, be it taxes, rent, or whatever plagues you.

If you think I'm sounding elitist, it's because I am. It is the apathetic and ignorant masses that cause decadence and corruption in our society. You enable the smarter, more Machiavellian intelligentsia to warp your reality and rape you of your rights, as is the case right now. You then ignore the altruistic intellectuals who attempt to save you partially because you're unable to understand what they're doing, and partially because you've succumbed to the opium that is laziness and ignorance. YOU are the reason why Ron Paul will never win, YOU are the reason why niggas in Africa are starving and dying, and YOU are the reason why it takes us hours and days and weeks to reach conclusions that should take seconds. Maddi, when I say this, I say this sincerely and intimately: you are everything that's wrong with the world and I hope you burn in hell.

Academic / School / SATs
« on: May 22, 2008, 05:32:13 am »
I know most of you are college-age now, but did some of you take the SATs? How'd you do? I'm really disappointed with my score this time around; I retook the test and I only improved my writing by 10 points...and I did much worse in math  :P.

Combined Best Scores: 800CR/790M/730W

For those who have already applied to colleges NOT IN CANADA , how well do I fare with these scores?

Anyone take the AMC today or a couple weeks ago? Probably not, since most of you aren't in high school anymore.

I received in the mail a 'nomination' to join the National Youth Leadership forum. I am usually apprehensive about these kinds of things, since they are usually scams and do not help you prepare for a career/get in a college. However, this one was a bit different. It actually used real stamps, instead of the generic "non-profit" stamps that came with a billion of the college letters I received, and it was in a fancy envelope with all ostentatious decorations and whatnot befit for a legitimate program. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had heard about this program, and if it is actually a good summer program. If it is, how good is it and is it work applying to? (Costs are around ~$2000)

Thanks in advance! :)

General Programming / Calculate Pi
« on: February 14, 2007, 11:15:36 pm »
Here's a way to calculate pi without using the stored pi constant..

This is using the Leibniz formula for pi(takes a large n to converge I believe)

Code: [Select]
public class Pi
{
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        //A larger n will give a closer approximation
        int n = 6000000;
        double x = 0;

        for(int i = 0; i < n; i++)
        {
            x += Math.pow(-1, i)/(2*i + 1);
        }
        System.out.println(x*4);
    }
}

Rectangle ISPE is drawn with IS > 3PS, IS = 20, EI = 3. There are two circles centered at P and S such that the two congruent circles are tangent to each other. A semicircle with center at N, which is the midpoint of EI, and radius 2, is drawn so that it is tangent to the rectangle and does not cross PE or IS. Another circle circumscribes the whole figure. What is the radius of this circle?

Clicky

Basically, master ukulelist(made up word) Jake Shimabukuro plays his rendition of the Beatles song "As My Guitar Gently Weeps" on his ukulele.

It owns. Seriously, I think I prefer this version to the original.

Graphics / Image Retouching

As a little project, I've been working on my Photoshop skills, mainly the improvement of images and stuff, so I can make a little money off friends.

I found this image:

And mazeltoved it to this image:

Any comments/critcisms? I know it doesn't look like much of an improvement, but I just started doing this and its a bit more difficult than other PS stuff I've done  :).

I would like to join x86!  8)

Well, my reasons for wanting to join are mainly these:

1. Interesting topic discussions which spark my interest! I really like reading some of the more controversial/political issues, but sometimes the age old Windows vs. Linux debate makes me want me want to castrate myself repeatedly(I'm not sure that's even possible.) T.T
2. WIRES
3. Joe
4. Multiple Grammar Nazis
5. David Hasselhoff

I suck at creating topics.  :(
