They're gonna fail because their name takes too long to type. I can hammer off 'google.ca' in seconds, but 'duckduckgo.com' is painful by comparison.
This + some queries take noticeably longer to complete than Google.

Thanks! I'm actually still waiting to hear back from UT Dallas, which I actually prefer over A&M because I already know most of the professors there and there are much more career opportunities in the Telecom Corridor, whereas in College Station I'll just be stuck with a bunch of rednecks in the middle of nowhere for 2 years lol. So not a dirty aggie just yet!

General Discussion / Re: Undergraduate Research Assistants Woes

You should probably let her know research is not her thing and she should find something else to do. Research assistants should be doing the work and reading up on things because its interesting to them and they want to learn. Unfortunately in many cases RAs do it just for the stipend money to help pay for school, and not really for the experience. You're in a tough position; the right thing to do is to let her know the truth, but then what if she really needs the money to pay for school?

Omg just use MS word you nerds!

Fuck that.
Fuck that.

Fuck that.

Seriously. I've done this a few times. I felt too lazy to start a LaTeX project, and dreaded the twiddling, compiling, twiddling some more ad nauseum. What a pain in the ass. no thanks, I'll do it in word.

Then I realize that doing it in word is much worse. It's still twiddling ad nauseum, but I have much less control over what I twiddle and by how much. THIS BULLET'S INDENTATION IS OFF, FUCK! This figure isn't in the position I want it to be. FUCK!

Seriously, fuck writing anything much more complicated than an essay in word.
Bullet indentation is off? Fix it. Figure not in right place? Drag it somewhere else/resize it. Its called not being lazy.

Sounds exciting! :) Don't bring too much stuff with you because from what I've seen the rooms are pretty small.

I don't see how you can recover the old partition table if indeed it has been formatted, unless there's a partition table of the partition table. Maybe the user guide for the camera can provide some useful info on recovering lost data?

Please consider an Intel processor instead of AMD, AMD is about 5 years behind Intel right now. The equivalent Intel processor is faster and uses less power.
Even at my price range? I'm not going for a high-end machine, and the low-to-mid range is where AMD seems to be competing really well right now.
The Core i-3s and i-5s are around the same price range as the A6 and are solid alternatives. The integrated GPU isn't on par with the AMD Radeon but the CPU makes up for it, and you mentioned you don't need that powerful of a GPU anyway. It's really personal preference but I'd go with Intel over AMD anyday, seeing how the latest bulldozer was a major disappointment AMD is pretty far behind Intel.

Many people go into medicine because they want money and prestige -- they don't really care about people at all.
Only the really stupid. Cutting medical reimbursements all across the board, rise in midlevel providers vying for greater billing rights, EMTALA and mandatory uninsured care, and an uncertainty of the full impact of the Affordable Care Act are all putting the squeeze on doctors. Add to that a financial loss of 4 years of medical school, 3 years at the absolute minimum (7 to get trained as a general surgeon) of residency, and debt of ~$150-200k for med school grads... Anybody going into medicine has easily proven him- or her-self to be hardworking, and could easily make money in another field.

$150k debt is nothing if you go to a decent medical school.  I would not say everyone in medicine could 'easily' make a comparable amount of money in another field.  What attracts a lot of people to medicine is the formulaic nature of obtaining money and prestige.  You take these courses, you volunteer at these places, you get into this school, and so on, and your future becomes assured, and if you want, very predictable.  There is no other profession which is more 'safe' and 'guaranteed'; e.g. 99% of graduates ending up with very highly paid jobs.  And that's got to attract a lot of people.  Also, the skills required to make money in other professions is quite different.

I would guess about 75% of people go into medicine primarily for money, prestige, and the guaranteed nature of the job.  It's a way of making money without taking a risk.  It's the type of job that controlling/protective parents will push their children towards at a very young age.
I think engineering is as "safe" and "guaranteed" as the medical profession. And compared with med schools you don't even need to graduate from a name brand school as long as you know your stuff. What's funny is that while med schools are generally harder to get into than engineering schools, it's a lot easier to get out on time due to easier coursework.
