Maybe you should roll on a server that doesn't suck ass?  Or maybe you think so highly of yourself that everyone outside of your group of friends appears to be an "asshole" or stupid?   I don't have problems with most of the people I run into and can generally chat about whatever comes to mind.
Yeah, because a post like that doesn't make you come off as an asshole at all, rofl

General Discussion / 'Zerg'
« on: September 28, 2007, 08:49:08 am »
I'm just curious... has the word 'zerg' entered common usage outside of being used by gamers or something? Today in calculus, my teacher said that we zerged through the review, commenting on how fast we finished it. I know I've heard it used as a verb for doing something quickly in allusion to the infamous zerg rush before, but I've never heard it outside of the interwebs.

:D

A bunch of monkeys are harrassing and attacking kenyans and stealing their crops. They've tried a whole bunch of stuff, outside of the obvious "smashing their heads in with blunt objects so they can feed their families for another day (and maybe have a monkeylicious desert)".

Tabletop Gaming/RPGs / First time RPing
« on: July 14, 2007, 11:44:47 am »
I'm almost embarrassed to be posting this, considering how much I usually make fun of people for RPing..... but I was kinda forced into it against my will (stupid powerful women), and came out with a much much better experience than I expected. The game was Vampire: The Masquerade part of the World of Darkness series. I don't really know anything about pen and paper RPG stuff, but according to the guy who was the GM it is really good, as are a lot of the games in the series, but all the new ones suck (or something like that). I think vampires are pretty lame, but oh well.

Anyways, the vast majority of the reason this worked out well for me was we had a really really good group of people who all get along really well, and have met at least once or twice before. Only the GM and my girlfriend had ever played the specific game before, and other four of us hadn't, so while I was completely new to RPing in general at least I didn't slow everything down that terribly to start with. The three others had played tons of D&D and other types of games but not this one specifically. Another useful thing at least for character creation (since there were only two books) was that the guy who was GM is uh, ridiculous and has almost everything in the book memorized, including what page most things are on. The GM is also part 2 of why the game was so enjoyable. The kid is just so damn good at running games.. he plans his stories out really really well, while still leaving plenty of room for the group to do what they want.

**snip**

I was reaching page 4 in MS word when I realized that I was only 20 minutes into the story (out of like 4 hours), and really didn't want to type any more. If I finish it I will post it, since WoW expired and I do not have immediate access to a credit card, it might actually happen. I am that bored. For now I will just say that it was really damn cool, and I think I like it.

Oh yeah, and I didn't sleep last night. I had way more caffeine than I usually do in one day, on an empty stomach. I also had woken up really late (4pm-ish) which threw me off... and then I ate lots of pizza and chineese food. This resulted in 0 sleep and still feeling like crap. But I'm wide awake before noon, which is really weird. I will probably crash, as there is no way in hell I can drink caffeine for at least 24 hours without getting even more sick.

Blizzard, WoW and Bots / Armory Firefox Search Plugin
« on: June 30, 2007, 04:17:02 pm »
I like my little search box in firefox, and the armory site takes forever to load all of its disgusting ajaxy crap, so I decided to make my own plugin thing. It comes with the nice little icon and everything.

Just slap this into an apporpriately named xml file (like, gasp, wowarmory.xml) and stick it in your <drive>:/My documents/<user>/application data/mozilla/firefox/profiles/<profile>/searchpugins folder! I know there's some fancy way to make it install itself if you click on it, but I'll leave that up to someone a little less lazy.

I tried to make it search for everything by adding &searchType=All after {searchTerms}, but apparently it doesn't like that syntax. Oh well. It only searches characters by default, which is what I search for 99% of the time anyways.

Ok, so I now have a hookup who is able to get me advance copies of movies. I can't get specific ones, and it I don't know how often I'll be able to get them, but I've gotten a few over the past week or two so I figured I would make a thread where I could take about them :)

The Shadow Walkers:
Street Date: 5/22/07 (this one must have been sitting around, already out)

Synopsis: When a group of scientists awaken in a subterranean laborator with no memory of who they are, they quickly discover that they are sealed in, with only one way to get out alive. struggling though the darkness, they uncover a hive of genetically mutated creatures that are stalking them from the shadows, hunting for the taste of human flesh...

My review: This movie fucking sucks. There is no plot at all. There is no reason behind anything that happens, ever. The acting is terrible and really forced. I stopped watching it less than half way though, and that's saying something, I never stop movies in the middle. Especially ones that are supposed to have boobs in them. The sleave the dvd came in says the suggested retail price is $26.98, hahahaha! No way!

The Big Bad Swim:
Street Date: 7/24/07

Synopsis: An adult swim class sets the stage for this charming comedy-drama about love, loss, and second chances. Three strangers find themselves entering deep water as they learn that life isn't always about diving in--it's about getting your feet wet once in a while.

My review: As you can probably tell by the synopsis, this movie is stupid. Another terrible piece of absolute garbage. I actually watched this one all the way through, but I must have been dozing off, because it was so damn boring. It's not that everything about it was bad, it's just that it was so horrendously uniteresting that the relatively decent acting and occasional humourous parts didn't make up for it. The retail price on this one is only $19.99, but I still wouldn't suggest it for anyone who isn't a masochist.

Masters of Horror: The Black Cat:
Street Date: 7/17/07

Synopsis: Jeffery Combs delivers and electrifying performance as legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe driven to debt and drunken folly by a world cruelly indifferent to his poetry. But is it his beloved wife's agonizing death by consumption or her deranged pet feline that will soon trigger the scribe's most ghastly acts of madness?

My review: Finally!!! A good one! This is actually based on the Poe story "The Black Cat" (which I haven't read) and is really interesting. From what iago told me about the story, the movie differs from it quite a lot while staying true to the basic premise. It's really creepy, with some cool gore scenes for those into that, and most of all, it was interesting and actually kept my attention the whole way through. Especially the ending is pretty strange, but I can't write about that! :)

Ok, that is all for now. I will update this thread if/when I get more. If anyone *really* wants one and it isn't online yet I'm sure I could leethax some copywrite laws for you, but if most of them are as terrible as the first two then I doubt it will ever be worth it :)

In commemoration of your new forum, I have composed for you this masterpiece of literature. Creative writing, indeed.

Nergal and the Three Noble Midgets of Babylon

Once upon a time, Nergal was walking along the rivers in the general mesopotamian area when he came upon Babylon, a city of wonders. Nergal decided to stop for a visit and encountered three noble midgets. The midgets were thusly named: Meskalamdug, Naram-Sin, and Joe.
“Holy fuck!” said the Naram-Sin, “That’s Nergal! We have to do something, or else we’re fucked.”
“You’re right” replied Meskalamdug. “We can’t just sit here and let him stab our faces repeatedly until we fall into a dead heap of flesh.”
“Oh noes!” said Joe, as he ran away. The fear that Nergal instilled in the midgets was great. As the god of war, death, destruction and disease, he gave off a sense of evil that only a PMSing woman possibly could challenge. Joe was quickly struck down by Nergal, who appeared before him and stabbed him in the face repeatedly until he fell into a dead heap of flesh. Meskalamdug decided to take charge and make sure that they would gain Nergal’s favor.
“Dearest Nergal, lord of the underworld, I have brought for you these children” said Meskalamdug, somehow procuring a sack full of babies since the last sentence. “We offer these in sacrifice, in hopes that you shall not harm us or our village.” Naram-Sin was suddenly ferociously weilding a sledgehammer. He dove for the children and let the Hammer Fall on them, one by one, until nothing was left but a spattering of goo. Once he was finished Nergal finally spoke:
“Noble midgets of Babylon, your sacrifice is most appreciated, albeit unacceptable. I require you to spill the blood of the handicapped, for they are useless and take up too much space.”
At this point, Anshar appeared, and interupted Nergal. “Nergal, you really are a jerk. Meskalamdug, Naram-Sin, you have done well to appease him, but your sacrifices were pointless. Nergal was not going to harm you.”
“What??” Exclaimed Meskalamdug, “But he killed Joe!”
“So?" replied Anshar.
"I see your point. Thank you lord Anshar." Meskalamdug said.

Meskalamdug and Naram-Sin lived happily ever after.

THE END

Academic / School / Make your own project: suggestions?
« on: May 21, 2007, 10:34:33 pm »
I have a project that I haven't started yet. Not surprisingly at all, it is due tomorrow. This is easily the hardest project I have ever had because it is so... open. What I have to do is take everything we've learned this year, and: "Create a piece of art, make a video, constuct a deries of poems, or compose a piece of music... choose whatever you like to make the end product. You may not create a poster." My problem here, is that the creative portion of my brain is pretty much nonfunctional. I can't draw, I can't write, I lack musical talent, and she took out the easy bullshit option of throwing everything on a poster.

The time constraint is not a worry, as I don't sleep and have almost all of tomorrow free to work on it if necessary. But as we have some bright and creative people here, I though I would try to make other people do the thinking for me. What do you think is a good way to take whateverthehell we learned and turn it into something interesting that I could present to the class? I've been sitting around all day thinking about this, and I still have no idea what the hell I'm going to do.
