General Discussion / Re: Moving to Japan
« on: December 06, 2011, 09:42:41 pm »
I visited Japan ~4 years ago (holy shit... it's been a while), and I had a blast. A lot of the signs for trains are in English, so it's not too bad navigating. Also, a lot of people know some English. They're not fluent, but they might be able to speak some. It is, however, more likely that they'll be able to read/write it a bit better.

The flight is a bit of a pain in the ass, especially being in economy seating. Airplanes are so packed, and the seats don't recline nearly enough.

Congrats, Chavo! Children still frighten me, so it'll be a few more years for me.

I e-mailed EA, who apparently now runs Bioware's support operations.

Greetings,

Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts accounts services.

I suggest you please run the game in Windows XP, as this is the old game, so it might not be supported by the windows XP, so we are not recommended the windows 7 for this game.

If you have any further questions or concerns please reply to this email or browse our extensive knowledge base online at http://help.ea.com. Visit at http://help.ea.com/chat for 24 x 7 chat support.

Don't mind me... D&D game pack (Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Icewind) for $19.99
I saw that, and I'm tempted. I think I'll ask Santa. It'd be nice to have some older games to play on my laptop while I'm waiting for the supercomputer to render images. If anyone here buys it, let me know if the installation and gameplay works well on Windows 7 and modern machines. I imagine they've fixed any issues, but I thought that about Steam, too. Nothing says awesome like spending an hour scouring forums for a fix.

I was looking for lunch places around my workplace in Austin, and I found Google has labeled a retention pond Lake Fail. It made my day.  ;D

"Challenge accepted"? :)

Your credit card number with expiry date and security code and any associated passwords? :P
Amateur. You'll need the billing address, too.

Pants are definitely where finding clothes sucks. My waist is definitely smaller than a 30, but no stores carry smaller than a 30. I will on occassion find some jeans at Old Navy that are a 28 or 29, and those fit better. When it comes to suit jackets and shirts, if I look hard enough for my size I find things fit me well without tailoring.
Kids department, imo.

Then don't buy a shirt that has the name plastered on it. They have plenty of clothing with no mention of their name (although they usually have the moose on them. i happen to like moose, so that's a plus for me :) ).
Even after the moose wrecked your mom's car? Really? You should hate moose; unless, of course, the moose is of the peppered jerky variety.

For shirts, I tend to shop JC Penney or Macy's. They have a fairly good variety, and the sales can be amazing (80-90% off). I've never seen quite those sales at American Eagle or Abercrombie. I also have fond memories of the JC Penney mother-store.

Please consider an Intel processor instead of AMD, AMD is about 5 years behind Intel right now. The equivalent Intel processor is faster and uses less power.
Even at my price range? I'm not going for a high-end machine, and the low-to-mid range is where AMD seems to be competing really well right now.

Or die gracefully. Any thoughts?
:(
These forums are the only place I keep in contact with most people.
Dude, get on Myspace! We're all there all the time.

I have an older model of this.  It's pretty smooth, although the mono speaker is kinda super shitty.
Do you happen to know how big the difference between the Phenom II and A-6 is performance-wise?

Well, I've finally decided to cave in and start shopping for a new laptop. I'd like to get it between now and the end of the year (and don't tell me to go to black Friday. Saving $50-80 really isn't worth it). Does any have any recommendations?

Budget: ~$500. I'm leery of spending much more than this because I'll probably be laptop shopping again in 3-4 years.
Uses: Nothing too heavy. If it can play games from 2005, run Excel and Aspen Plus, and surf the web, I'll be happy. It'll be tethered to my workstation for the most part.
Size: 13"-16"
Processor: I'd prefer AMD. But processors have changed so much since I last bought a laptop that I'm really not sure. I was intrigued by AMD's APUs, though.
Battery life: 2-3 hours running Microsoft Office or the browsing the web.

This Gateway looked good. But like I said, I'm really not sure what's good anymore.
