General Discussion / Re: Goodbye to Gary Gygax

As coming from a guy who has been reading his material and visiting the tomb of horrors since I was a young kid, this is definitely a sad time. My hack master group tonight finished up early and went out for drinks to a toast to gary. He'll be sorely missed.

All you're really doing is confirming that your email address is real, and suddenly it becomes more valuable to sell (becomes "confirmed").

I'm sure most of you have seen this but VGCats put out a humorous video dealing with the ending song played in Portal, it's addicting as all hell but the video has some funny parts.

Which coincidently the top limerick from limerickdb.com is this:

There once was a buggy AI
Who decided her subject should die.
When the plot was uncovered,
The subjected discovered
That sadly the cake was a lie.

It looks like someones implying you need the magic pill. It also looks like its the beginning of some kind of paragraph you'd see in a romance novel. Except the person who typed it obviously had Sweaty Hands Syndrome. Poor person.

Dude... do something worthwhile with yourself instead of playing all these games all the way through, one at a time.

If that's what he enjoys I don't think anyone has a right to tell him to do something worthwhile. Apparently if he's having fun, it's worthwhile to him?

Also, I do have a Super Scope laying in my closet yet for the few games that used it, sure it weighs like 10lbs and sure it looks like a bazooka, but dang is it fun.

That helps a good bit. I'll look into it, because when I last tried DM'ing something similar to homebrew Shadowrun, it was just way too overwhelming to go into unprepared.

While its good to be prepared, having too much planned can also be as frustrating, Not everything goes to story when you pre-plan, so the main things I have planned when running the game is..

Map
NPC's
Town / Community Status

The amount of things that can mess up a story line is tremendous but sometimes its for the best and thats when using your imagination and the "what would this character" do mentality comes into play.

I have a few stories I'm writing up that I'll post here about previous campaigns I either played in or ran. You'll be introduced to my favorite character ever the infamous..

Pentaro!, which turned into Pentaro 1 - 4, who eventually became Pentium after like half a dozen deaths.

Whilst the guy playing messed up with the plan, the way his characters died seriously can't be made up, some of the funnest times in my playing career came from watching awesome heroic gestures go into fumbling deaths.

Haha looks awesome.

I finished up a set of human marines / glaivers and a few elvish troops for the campaign I'm running, I'll have to dig up my camera and load them up. I took your advice and grabbed the nylon styling brushes and the detail brushes held up strong and weren't flimsy like some of the foam ones you see, I'm really happy with them.

Looks awesome sir.

Are you using enamel or acrylic based paint for your miniatures? I've been using enamel on my paintings and such lately (my steel 28MM pours) It shows up well it's just sort of messy, I suppose I could ease my pain by getting a magnifier and some finer brushes I suppose.

Just out of curiosity do you purchase your non painted miniatures locally or is there a place online you order through?

Yea, my group is currently playing in a 1920 - 1930's campaign. We have a couple popular culture figures in our game.

We have one person playing Doc Brown the mad scientist.
Another person playing a fraudulent Alan Quartermain.
One's Playing a reporter named Stoned Deaf.
Another is playing a meat head boxer named Crusher O'Brien
Then of course we have my character Patrick O'Connell who is an Irish Mobster.

So far it's been a lot of fun, we're ending our current adventure within the next couple sessions and hopefully starting the next campaign by march. I sort of have a blog site coming up that deals with a lot of our stories along with some audio caption of some of the games. I'll get a link up when i get more stuff added.
