Ender has usually been considerate "when it matters", and I found the past trolling funny.  And he was responding to deadly, not dark_drake (who, coincidentally, is rarely provocative).

I thought you had good taste.

Kidding. I'm in Madison, WI and I can travel a few hours away. I'd be cool to plan a meetup some time this summer. Anyone interested in a midwest meetup please reply here and we can make a map of everyone and find a good centroid. Also reply with any un-available blocks.

I'll be home tomorrow night, and I'll be there until I leave. Actually, I'll be back in Cupertino for a week in August for something I can't tell you about! :)

I'll start a thread about a midwest meet up.

What's a Ninja 250R vs a 250? Wikipedia for "Ninja 250" just redirects to 250R. :P

I'm not a fan of Harleys, and that's the ultimate sin in this area, because they're the Wisconsin motorcycle (HQ is in Milwaukee). It seems to me like once you say you ride one, motorcyclists (as opposed to "bikers", the guys who ride to the bar on weekends) automatically envision you in a t-shirt with no helmet. At least, I do.

But, I've decided that if one showed up in my driveway with a title, I probably wouldn't sell it right away.

My biker gang and I (I'm on the far left).

They let your Ninja 250 into a biker gang with a Barley Davidson? Holy snap.

(yeahh bump!)

Ancient aliens is a neat idea, but there are two big problems with it from my point of view:
 • No (credible) archaeological evidence of aliens has been found. They left nothing behind yet have supposedly influenced early humans on a global scale? What kind of man power is needed to influence early humans on a global scale and how do you prevent even one individual from polluting the Earth with their presence?
 • No one seems to appreciate the size of the galaxy, let alone the universe itself. Even if intelligent life were relatively common, the distances are so great that it may take thousands to millions of years for an intelligent race to even receive electromagnetic radiation from us (and vice versa). Yet, even if we were to suppose that intelligent life had mastered efficient space travel ... where would they begin to look among the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy alone? Why do we even presume that we have been found by aliens at all?

Last time I posted this it was a joke. Now I'm serious.

Have you ever seen Star Trek: First Contact?
The crew of the USS Enterprise-D went back in time to ensure that Zephram Cochrane's first superluminal space flight actually took place.
The United Federation of Planets (and many species before it's formation) had a "Prime Directive", which is to not assist pre-warp societies with technological advancements, or more generally, don't let them know you exist.

Both of your questions are easily answered. The aliens could have been much smarter than we are. They directly implanted ideas into the brains of people around the globe. Also, they could have developed a technology that allows them to see planets great distances away without the lag associated with light-speed transmission.

Or not. But, it could be!

EDIT -
Oh hey, we have no spoiler tag here. :(

I mean, it's possible that aliens meddled with human history ...

Ever seen Star Trek: First Contact?

Since we're talking about religion now, I might as well chime in. I'm still a Christian, but seeing the way that other Christians act, I've wanted to adopt a moral code of sorts, considering Christianity's moral code is essentially "be good, or else apologize and it's fine".

I haven't really accepted anything as "my" moral code / religion, but I've read about Buddhism's Noble Eightfold Path, and Jediism. I think some of their teachings are really good from a non-religious standpoint.

Bikes have a very simple shifter. It always returns to home position and you can click down to downshift or click up to upshift. So, if you come to a dead stop in 4th, you're going to hold your bike up on one foot and click down three times. Eventually you're going to come to a dead stop just as the light turns green and look like a dick while you sit there for a few seconds getting ready. Or worse, the moron behind you doesn't realize it's a red light and you need to be moving five seconds ago.

But mechanically, yeah, you can shift at a stop just fine. It's just not good practice imo.

I've been playing SWTOR. Who else?

One thing I find super shitty (or maybe I'm just dumb) is that you can't /friend someone unless they're online. Listing our toons here is completely useless, but anyhow..

Hashrocket (26 Jedi Sentinel) @ Wound in the Force
Bashrocket (~16 Jedi Consular) @ Wound in the Force
Crashrocket (1 Sith Inquisitor) @ Wound in the Force

So, what's Joe up to? Well, he's up to a whole not much.

A friend of mine just got a job at a startup here in town doing iOS development for $40/hr. They're looking to hire "ASAP" and as far as I know have only one iOS candidate (yours truly), so hopefully I won't be broke in a few weeks.

Other than that, I'm winding up my third year in my two year degree (apparently this is common, I'm not just a slacker) and I have about 50% of my credits done (that's what puts me in slacker territory). But seeing how people who haven't finished at my school are getting snatched up at the startups around here for a very pretty penny, I'm not very interested in finishing my generals. Obviously I will get my degree some time in the not-too-distant future, cause otherwise my dad will give me the same grief I gave him for dropping out of college, not to mention I'll be compared to our fuhrer governor, but yeah.

As far as other stuff, I've still got my motorcycle (less the front turn signals, which I need to get replaced). My fiancee also just got one, a GZ250 (not sure if I can hotlink). She's kind of nervous but I got her on the highway the other day and she rode all the way to work and she's learning how to negotiate traffic, etc. She has one problem I never had, and that's forgetting to downshift when coming to a stop. Probably cause I engine brake so I always know I'm going down in the gears. For those who haven't drove/ridden a manual, if you don't downshift when you come to a stop, then try to leave your stop in 3rd+ (2nd if you're a bad clutcher), you won't be leaving your stop. :)

That was a fun rant. See you next year!

i'm down if its bnet2.0.
Also the only reason blizz came knocking on rob's door was because he was posting the info in public domain.

What's the difference between posting in public domain and just open source? I know the difference from a licensing standpoint, but why would Blizzard be any less pissed? Regardless, as far as I know, if he's doing it for educational value it's totally fine. I can say that I've learned a lot from the first generation of bots.
