General Discussion / Thunderbird Question
« on: July 28, 2009, 12:14:41 am »
I've been wanting to use an e-mail program instead of actually using the online web interfaces for a while now, so I have some questions about Thunderbird:

1. For those of you that have used it, what is your opinion of the program? Any major issues/annoying nuances?
2. Is it possible to run multiple e-mail accounts off of Thunderbird? I'm thinking of using it to manage 1 GMail account, 1 university account . This may potentially change to 2 GMail accounts, however.
3. Is it possible to synchronize two different computers and have them interface the same Thunderbird instance? I would imagine TB saves all outgoing e-mails as well as incoming. Unless it just saves the "outgoing" folder and refreshes the emails and downloads them when they get added to the online directory, making this a moot issue, I'd like a way to save all the same e-mails on both computers.

General Discussion / Firefox Issue
« on: July 06, 2009, 02:37:30 am »
Since the new 3.x series of Firefox for some reason my history usage doesn't automatically clear itself. It's set to keep history for 5 days but it keeps history from months ago. Any solutions other than clearing it?

General Discussion / Removing Firefox
« on: May 25, 2009, 04:04:28 pm »
Hey all-

So as some of you know, my Firefox has been acting up anytime I watch Flash videos, because the Flash video will resize to something about 100x100 and then back to its original size, and continuously do that. I tested in IE7 and this doesn't happen there, so I've determined it's probably one of the many issues that my Firefox install is having. I tried uninstalling but for some reason it didn't delete ALL of my Firefox data.. So is there anything I can do to remove every scrap of Firefox on my computer?

General Discussion / Partitions
« on: May 22, 2009, 03:47:59 am »
So, I might be getting a laptop with 320gb hard drive space.

Unfortunately, it comes preloaded with Vista. Therefore, I'm going to scrap the entire drive and just install XP and Slackware (:D). I'm wondering how I should partition the drive so that I can have a Windows NTFS partition, a Slackware ext-3 partition, and a swap partition for both to share documents/music/movies.

Thanks all!

General Discussion / DJ Software
« on: May 19, 2009, 03:03:45 am »
So, lately I've taken an interest in mixing/mashing music, but the way I currently do it is no fun at all and allows for no dynamic changes (since I pre-mix songs and tinker around in Audacity). Does anybody know of a program that I could mix music, export what I mix to MP3, and also have DJ buttons (e.g. overlay a song onto another, scratch a turntable, etc.)? I've used TRAKTOR before and I kind of liked it, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Freeware would be much preferred, but I'm probably shooting for the stars there.

Edit: I did some reading, seems the President thinks of it the same way.
I'm sure the reading came before your thoughts did. Face it, it's a well-known fact you're on Obama's left nut better than his ballsack ever could be.

Entertainment District / Classical piano
« on: March 29, 2009, 08:40:19 pm »
Does anyone have any good suggestions of albums featuring performs that play lots of classical piano pieces? I'd be more interested in piano, but entire orchestral ensembles work, too.

Academic / School / LaTeX help
« on: November 07, 2008, 01:11:47 pm »
Hey all-

I'm trying to use LaTeX to write a lab report for bio.. How do I have the following 3 items directly above each other in this order?

\beta-galactosidase
\rightarrow
H_{2}O

I tried this formula but it didn't work, and I dunno what else to do. Maybe an array or a vector? But I don't want the associated braces that come with them..
\displaystyle C_{12}H_{22}O_{11} \over{\beta-galactosidase}\longrightarrow \under{H_{2}O}

Google's little blog about it. Apparently there's a hack coming out soon that would allow someone sniffing packets on an unencrypted e-mail session to take advantage of the lack of protection and obtain the session information, therefore bypassing the need for login information.

General Discussion / Laptop help
« on: June 02, 2008, 11:14:18 pm »
My laptop (an HP Pavilion ze4911us) is starting to heat up insane amounts doing.. well.. nothing. I'll be writing a paper on it and after an hour or two will happen to touch the bottom of it and will notice that it gets to AT LEAST 80 degrees Fahrenheit.. which isn't good. I contacted HP today and they said that the motherboard is dying. But then, it IS customer support, and we all know how much they actually help.. They told me to update the BIOS, reinstall the power management software, and the problem still persists. What do you guys think is the problem with it? I was thinking it might be a couple of dead fans, but taking apart the laptop to check that is quite a task (have to strip all parts, basically).
