General Discussion / What is your purpose in life?
« on: November 06, 2005, 10:30:43 pm »
Simple topic: what do you believe your purpose in life is?

Mine is to eventually create music so complex that you have to sit down to listen to it. Music that makes you get lost in your mind while listening to it, almost like it's hypnotizing.

Yep, the age old question in philosphy. What do you think, do people generally have good or bad instinct?

General Discussion / Audio Player
« on: October 17, 2005, 09:51:11 pm »
I'm looking for a good audio player that can slow down/speed up songs without changing the pitch of the notes. I know WMP can do it, but they do a horrible job at it and it sounds choppy. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Also, I don't think WinAMP can do it, but if they can please post. Also post if you found a plugin for WMP or WinAMP that works good too.

Blizzard, WoW and Bots / x86 on WoW?
« on: October 09, 2005, 11:36:50 am »
Yeah, I'm thinkin' that x86 should move to 1 server on WoW instead of being seperated across everything. What server you ask? I'm thinking it'd be good to wait for a new server, that way we can kick major ass.

Who'd like to see this happen? It's always great to be with people you know.

General Discussion / Extreme lag when Firefox renders animated images.
« on: October 08, 2005, 02:54:50 pm »
Quote
Whenever I view this webpage:
http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/animation.html
I get a massive amount of lag and CPU usage goes up to 100%, RAM stays the same.
When using IE, the CPU usage stays at a constant 10%-30%.

To prove that this is not due to Firefox's memory allocation problem yet a
rendering problem, I've put up a page without animation, but with more images:
http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/no-animation.html

Also, I'm sure whoever reads this can relate it to bug #242426, yet it's not the
same. They have a very poor description, and the majority of the comments
relates it to a memory allocation problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open up Firefox.
2. Go to a page loaded with a large amount of animated images, or just this:
http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/animation.html
3. Enjoy the lag!
Actual Results:
Non-stop 100% CPU usage.

Expected Results:
~10%-30% CPU usage like Internet Explorer.

On other forums, I've posted this same problem. The majority of the users get the
lag, but people using Linux don't. Some other people don't get the lag for
reasons I can't explain.

Post the results if you use Firefox. Also vote for it here if you want it to be fixed. Even if it's not a problem for you, I'm sure at sometime you'll use somebody else's computer and have that same lag that could've been fixed if you voted for it. If you're REALLY lazy and won't make an account, I'll make it for you.

General Discussion / Eat bacon, burn in Hell?
« on: October 04, 2005, 10:25:11 pm »
Well apparently, my mom's got her hands on a book about what we're supposed to eat. Even worse, this book is considered a religious book, which says that God doesn't want us to eat pork, shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, and many other foods because they're loaded with toxins and are supposedly considered an abdomination just like gay marriage.

Who says any of this is true? Sure, it's written in the bible, but isn't the bible written by man? Also, the bible was written thousands of years ago. Back then, pork was toxic and killed many people. It's said not to be toxic anymore today, but my mom still says, "The bible was written for any time period." I'm agnostic, so for me all of this is just a reason to turn athiest instead of Christian.

Also, anyone have any knowledge on the toxicity levels of any of these meals?

General Discussion / Titles
« on: September 28, 2005, 11:45:49 pm »
So I'm basically taking my obsession with organizing my music to another level and need to know the rule for capitilizations in titles. I think it's something like everything but articles and prepositions... I've asked a bunch of people, but still no answer, so basically if nobody here knows, theres just no hope.

Entertainment District / Converter...
« on: August 31, 2005, 10:05:42 pm »
Hmm, anyone have a good .DVR converter (standard format for recorded TV, I'm pretty sure it's DVR)? The one, but it takes around 18 hours to convert a 2 hour movie in HD format to an AVI...
