I want to email a folder to a friend. But attachments (at least on gmail) can only take the form of a file type. So I guess the logical conclusion would be to "contract (or whatever you call it) the files", send them as that one "contraction (.rar, .zip, or w/e)," so then he can extract it and I won't have to send the files individually (there are many). But how do I do this? And is there an easier way?

.rar: www.rarlabs.com

Compress the folder, send it to your friend, he decompresses it. Bam. You have a folder.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

sp0rkeh does this too, except about 10 times as fast.

haha you wish

i wouldnt really compress it with RAR though. the 7z format is currently the best compression out there(according to wikipedia).

It's not nearly as standard, though.  I'd just use .zip.  Unless you're zipping something that needs to be really small in size, I'd recommend against using anything else since it is so standard.
