I'm debating buying Rock Band 2 or the Guitar Hero one. The complete band games. I watched some online review videos and the message I got was that Rock Band 2 had better game player and provided more options, and stuff. It sounded to me like Guitar Hero has the better sound tracks.

Can you download sound tracks and stuff for Rock Band 2? Which one is better? I've never really played any of these games.

I dont know what kind of music you like but unless you like everything or love the radio both games have pretty bad sound tracks overall. As far as i know both games have a large catalog of downloadable songs which should help since you can pick and choose songs that dont blow, and though i cant get it (ps2 = fail) its where a lot of the good songs seem to go. Really, there isnt too much difference. Would you rather the notes be circles or rectangles? :)

I like RB2 a LOT better (so much, in fact, that I bought it and about $80 of DLC).  There's a lot of great songs in it, and a bunch of shitty ones, but overall, the library is far bigger than GHWT.  There's some Yngwie Malmsteen, Megadeth, The Who, Kansas, Grateful Dead, and a bunch of other really fun songs.

Also, GHWT sucks.

I've heard "Rock Band did the game right, Guitar Hero did the instruments right."

Personally, the selection of songs for both games was adequate, and one didn't shine over the other in that respect when I was looking at them.  The research I did pretty strongly suggested that the instruments for WT are better than those for RB2.  My parents have WT at their house, and it's a lot of fun.

Honestly, I doubt the difference is anything very significant.

The RB2 drums are far better than the RB drums, by about a billion.

RB2 drums are better than RB, no doubt, but GHWT is still better than those.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

The shift from guitar oriented music in the guitar hero games to songs that are more band friendly really left a lot to be desired imo. Though Painkiller in RB2 = <333333333 enough that I don't care

Painkiller is fun, but fuck vocals, I like Caprici di Diablo.
