Yeah, there's a 25ft patch cord on Newegg for $3.49.  I'd say that's about right.

That being said, it's still way cheaper to buy, run and crimp your own cable (obviously). :)

I'm not sure about the running part, but buy a complete cable vs. buying bulk+crimping saves you <$0.20 a cable. I'm reasonably sure that 20 cents is worth me not having to spend the effort to do all that work :p

Just looking on newegg, there's 1,000 feet for $75, which is $0.075/foot.  The $3.49 foot cable mentioned earlier is $0.1745/foot (plus whatever the cost of the ends are), so if you're running lots of cable, I think it's way worth it.

Not to mention running cable without the ends on it is way easier if you have to go through tight spaces!

I was looking at Cat6, oops. Yeah I can definitely see it being easier to run without ends but then again in the places I've lived there has never been a way to actually run cable aside from along the floor so it hasn't mattered much to me.

Wow....cost+5%?  Damn.  I want that for things that aren't PS3/360.  That's an awesome deal!

Anyway, I need to run a bunch of cable in my house sometime.  I've recently setup 2 new (they are actually old, but they are being put into new service) computers and I've got nowhere to plug them in.

The markup on the cables is hilarious. My girlfriend works at best buy, and she bought a printer today (it was some cheap $40 thing just so she can print papers without running to the library while she's at school). It didn't come with a cable, and she picked up one that was $32. With her discount, she gets most things at cost + 5% or something like that, and the cable was $1.68 (the printer was a little over $16)

Remember that time I went to Radio Shack to get a cat5 cable?

Ehh, I took to it naturally. So I enjoy crimping my own network cables. 300 ft spool + crimpers + caps = $100. 30 10 ft strands of CAT5 = much more than $100. ;)

I'm not entirely sure where you buy your cable from, but from my estimates and experience 30 10ft cables is about $42.

Staples. I've spent $10-20 for 10-30 feet cables individually before, because I didn't have the extra cash for the supplies I'd need to crimp it myself. Heh.
