No, he wasn't forced to switch to Windows. If he wanted to serve time in his house, he'd be required to use Windows so that the monitoring software could run.

He could easily take the alternative and use his free open source operating system in jail. Oh, wait, the only thing free and open would be his poor puckered asshole as he's passed around the prison like a bitch. :(
