Are you even allowed to defend yourself in this case? I mean if you shoot a sheriff you're in deep shit, but if you just stand there he will shoot you.

Blaze

Well, someone shot him and I don't believe they will be in much trouble.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

Sidoh

Are you sure you read the story correctly?  From what I gathered, he started shooting at the teenagers out of rage or something.

iago

The teenagers may have been zombies.

More later.

Yea in this case a police officer shot him. I was talking about the victims.

I think the article mentions that he was targeting his ex-girlfriend out of jealousy or something, I thought police had to take some kind of test to make sure they are mentally stable before they take on the job?

zorm

Shit happens, he was off duty.

Should really be "man goes on shooting rampage."

The fact that he was part of a peace force has little to do with the matter. I also agree with iago, it was zombies.

You sounded like you thought the teenagers started it in your first post.

I'm sure there's some sort of test or something, but nothing is definitive.  Someone can appear completely stable but have the intentions of a madman.  You can screen people as much as you want, but that doesn't mean that you're going to prevent everything bad from happening.  Unpredictable circumstances lead to unpredictable consequences.

In addition, I also agree with iago.  They were definitely zombies.  I'm not sure why, but if iago suspects it, then it must be true.

Of course shoot back if some nut is trying to shoot you.

I would only do that if it was the absolute last thing I could do to save my life.  I think we've been through this before, but I'd rather not take that sort of thing into my own hands if I can avoid it.

We probably have been through this before  ;D.

But yeah, I'm more of a "shoot first ask questions later" person in a case where someone is shooting at me.

One must ask oneself: "do I will trolling to become a universal law?" And then when one realizes "yes, I do will it to be such," one feels completely justified.

Ya know, I wonder about shooting people, sometimes.

Last night @ 230 am neighbor's car started honking & all.  Got me to thinkin' "What if I heard my horn going off, went outside and saw someone taking my stuff.  If I shot the guy, what would I do afterwards?  Would I call the cops or just bury him in the backyard?"

WTF?

Exactly.  Why bother going through the hassle of the cops maybe arresting me when I could just do it all myself ;)!  ha

If somebody was shooting at me, the last thing I'd do is give away my position by shooting back. Rather, I would take cover and hide somewhere. Especially if it was random, since they wouldn't come looking for you. If you tried shooting back, especially if he's trained, you'd probably end up being the one who's shot.

In terms of burying him, if you got caught covering up a crime like that, you'd serve a lot of time no matter if it was your fault or not.

<edit> Incidentally, that's the wrong reason for not doing it. The better reason is that it's not the right thing to do. They almost certain have family or friends that would be wondering what happened to them, without ever getting any kind of closure. Whether or not the person is a crimina, besides being wrong to outright kill him, it's also wrong to deny everybody else the knowledge of what happened.
