Haha nice.

So to everybody else, once you get an account, you want to:
/msg nickserv register <password>
I'm assuming these are stored in plaintext since the protocol is plaintext?

I have a programming folder, and I have nothing of value there

Running with Code has a new home!

Yes, it's extremely simplistic. It might be hashed.

To add some security, we can use FiSH

I don't see a point, we aren't talking about anything private. If we want secure chat, I suggest moving to SILC (I'm already on SILC, as well, so I'd be fine with that). I don't see a point, though.

Haha, yeah.  Encrypted chat is great, but it's pretty dumb if there's no purpose.  I use OTR with pidgin, but that's because I occasionally do talk about things I consider private.

If you register your names with NickServ, I can give you auto-voice (non-members) or auto-ops (members).

/msg NickServ REGISTER password

haha, no. Voice on IRC refers to ability to chat, more or less. When a room is designated as such (+m) only people who have voice (+v) and ops can chat.
The douchebag method:

Joe

Think about it as the elementary school concept when you swear. "You just lost your +v!"

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

warz

i doubt they're stored in plain-text. the protocol being plain-text doesn't mean that they have to be stored that way, either. it just depends what services they're using. but yeah, like newby said, it's just a nickname on a large public irc network - choose something that you don't mind if somebody else found it out.

Get rid of the stupid fucking "you need to be identified to join that channel."
It is good to be good, but it is better to be lucky.

iago

I like requiring identification, and it's not like it's difficult to identify.
