Characters completely changed in bash - Because of JavaOp?

This is what was going on in the Terminal.  JavaOp was parsing it into normal text, and everything was fine, but why did this happen?

But seriously, it's probably because of JavaOp trying to print a non-printable character, which just happened to change the console's font. Is there some way you can tell us exactly where that happens?
