Basically...
QuoteFederal agents may take a traveler's laptop computer or other electronic device to an off-site location for an unspecified period of time without any suspicion of wrongdoing, as part of border search policies the Department of Homeland Security recently disclosed.

Also, officials may share copies of the laptop's contents with other agencies and private entities for language translation, data decryption or other reasons, according to the policies, dated July 16 and issued by two DHS agencies, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

They're worse than China!

Also, that applies to anybody entering the country, including US citizens.

This screams "unreasonable search" to me.

A) Worse than China would be shooting you on the spot ... that's about the only way it could be worse than China/
B) I still don't think the Constitution applies to non-US citizens :-\

Maybe he was going to use that money to buy drugs. And that's why the TSA is winning the War on Drugs.

I'm sure they jump at the chance to risk their job stealing pocket change. Seriously? Come on.

How exactly would they lose their jobs? They searched his bag in an unobserved room.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It's fairly obvious that your friend's contention is most likely false.
