I wonder if there's a correlation between metal fans and the mentally ill.

Is it odd that I wonder why you quoted that first thing?

(10:34:27 PM) [x86] c0Ld: Newby's probably gone farther then me.
(10:34:39 PM) Me: I think Newby hugged his mom once.
(10:34:44 PM) Me: That's probably as far as he got.
(10:34:48 PM) [x86] c0Ld: My most intimate moment with a female was running a 5 man in WoW with a 40 year old soccer mom.
(10:34:51 PM) Me: Towelie touched a vagoo, but not with his penis.
(10:35:10 PM) [x86] c0Ld: Towelie is above and beyond me, then.
(10:35:21 PM) [x86] c0Ld: And I've heard Newby is as well.
(10:35:30 PM) Me: I've touched vagoo with both mouth, hands, and of course, penis.
(10:35:45 PM) [x86] c0Ld: But have you touched it with your toes?
(10:35:53 PM) Me: Why?
(10:36:03 PM) [x86] c0Ld: ...No reason.

Realistically, I doubt it.  There are all sorts of insanity, which reflect in a great many diverse regards.  In terms of musical taste, it would be no more indicative of general mental health problems to enjoy metal than classical (another favorite of mine) or gangsta rap (a genre I thoroughly dislike--I'm almost considering making it the exception to this rule in my argument), without any other factors.  Some mental illnesses may tend to make their sufferers like metal, but others may lead in opposite directions, thus defeating any correlation.

For the joke . . . you pretty well covered it.  Not sure there's much of anything I can add.

What an interesting and illuminating conversation.
On that note I have religious concerns that would preclude making that relevant to my life, so to speak.  But interesting anyway.

As do I, which is why I haven't been laid in 5+ months and don't plan on it in the near future. Either way, I've still beat c0ld.

By the way, do Newby / Hagen / Towelie / Muffin give you shit about it? They give me plenty. :P

Hello!  Why are there so many people here who like the Metal genre? :(

Emo elitist teenagers tend to denounce bad music and then champion even worse music. It's a very ironic human phenomenon.

Are you calling me an emo elitist teenager?

It would be between Alfred the Great, William the Conqueror, Edward I, and Henry VII (that last one due more to my being a fan of Protestantism than anything else, though I know his motivations certainly were not theological).  They are not all of the good/interesting ones, but they are the ones good/interesting enough for me to remember them.

These are exclusively prior to the Union of 1707, when they ceased to be the Kings of England and became the Kings of Britain.

Either that or he was answering your question, I can't quite tell.

Anyways, there is so much metal that I'm pretty sure everyone could find a sub-genre that they enjoy. My girlfriend hated anything remotely related to metal but is now in love with power metal, and likes a lot of punkier thrash/crossover kinda stuff. I've converted so many people and exposed so many others to stuff they might never have heard before. I completely converted Newby back in the day, and I helped push iago in the right direction. I'm pretty sure I could find something that would please anybody. :)

lol.  I'm sure the "Emo elitist teenagers" bit was a troll, but it really does annoy me when people try to subtly insult a genre of music because they don't like it.  It is, of course, beyond fair for them to say they don't like it, but saying it sucks or implying that people are lame for liking it really grinds my gears.

I know I've been guilty of this in the past, but now, I try to avoid saying those kinds of things.

Haha, that's a great point.  It's a pretty diverse genre.  There is definitely metal that I don't like.

iago

I wonder if there's a correlation between metal fans and people who aren't easily led around by mainstream/popculture bullshit? :)

Also, I bet there's an inverse correlation between metal fans and mentally ill. :P

Haha.  I guess I'm not sure either way.  It'd be an interesting study, though!

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I'm sorry if my post came off as me saying that people who listen to that genre of music are lame.  That was not at all what I was trying to say.  The only comments I was making there is that I don't like it and I don't understand why others like it.  It's just like people who say they don't like chocolate, I just don't understand how they couldn't like chocolate when it's so delicious!  That doesn't mean I think they are a loser and or lame, it just means I truly don't understand.  I would never ever insult someone else just because of their taste in music.  The majority of my friends here at Rolla like old rock n' roll music (like ACDC, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, etc) and I absolutely hate it, but I don't think they are lame.  If I thought they were lame I wouldn't be their friend!

The little bit Ender said about me being an Emo Elitist Teenage is completely false.  I am not emo, I am most definitely not an elitist, and I am also not a teenager.
