16-bit Windows emulation?

I've got an old [legit on cd-rom too! :-o] 16-bit game [made for Win95 and below] that I've been trying to start playing again. I'm in the process of backing up my files/settings, but I was curious to see if it could be emulated on Linux (I'll be installing Slackware). I'm thinking WINE as an emulator, but I haven't used it in a while.

Any thoughts?

It will probably work.  Look up the game in the WINE HQ database and see if it's been tested for compatability.

If it doesn't work I'm sure iago could write a very small shell script to make it work.

wine can often play those games. I've had a lot of luck running Windows 95 era games (Exile and The Incredible Machine, to name a couple) on Wine with no problems at all.

dosbox is better, though, if it'll run on DOS. dosbox is a full emulator of the DOS operating system, whereas wine is a partial (almost complete) implementation of Windows libraries.

Dosbox works, but I have a weird issue:

I ripped the legitimate CD to ISO using mkisofs at work and burned it. For some reason, dosbox doesn't recognize the ISO when I imgmount it, because loading the prgoram leads to a "CD Not Found" message. But I can install the game from the ISO just fine...

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

The game was printed in like 1996 from some German company. I don't think copy protection was their strong point. But even then, how would I get around this? I can't find anything that links the CD to the executable, so I'm all out of ideas.

I probably have a Windows 95 machine laying around somewhere if you want me to mail / deliver it. Gas would probably be less than shipping. :P

You might be right about that, Joe.
