Brief periods of downtime possible
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:22:52 pm »
So, I have to move out of my place for 4 weeks while they do repairs. My plan is to put the server somewhere that they won't break it (which is going to involve rebooting it). Even then, though, it's possible that it might get unplugged. I'll be nearby, fortunately, so I'll fix it if there are any issues.

If you're staying in the Province there will be no issues.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

See, that wasn't so bad! All my downtime should be planned and in the middle of the night like this. :)

It should be up for the next month or so, unless the people doing the repairs unplug it, which is very possible. I'll be nearby, though, if it needs a kick or something.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Stupid servers that don't properly remember the time. :)

I fixed it!

I have a friend who lives upstairs in the same building as me, so I dragged all my stuff up here and I'm staying with him. It's less than ideal, but does the job. :)

And...... that's what's happening today. The dust finally started affecting the server. I went at it with a can of air and it's mostly cleaned up now, so we'll see if it works better. I have backups of everything, so worst case I get new hardware.

So, it's pretty much dead hardware. Wouldn't stay on for more than a couple mins yesterday - I'm pretty sure it's heat. It's been on all night, though, it's finnicky!

I bought new hardware, anyway. Quad core i5. Should be awesome. :D
