I'm still considering mine, but figured I'd start the thread anyways.

I feel like I succeeded in following through with my last year's resolutions.

Mine is usually to stop biting my nails and it falls through about a week into the new year.

You did remind me not to go to the gym for at least a month after school starts, though. All sorts of kids are gonna be in there all the time working out, trying to adhere to their resolution or whatever. :p

I've got time to think of some, right?

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I never make one.  I'm boring like that.
The once grove of splendor,
Aforetime crowned by lilac and lily,
Lay now forevermore slender;
And all winds that liven
Silhouette a lone existence;
A leafless oak grasping at eternity.

You should resolve to make resolutions in 2012.

Not kill anyone at the overly crowded gym for the next month and a half. Then, it'll be back to normal.

OpenGL. That's my new years resolution for this year, and then next 10.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

For the hell of it (and to prove to myself that it's not a habit), I stopped biting my nails on Jan 1. I always maintain that I broke the habit years ago, and that biting my nails is part of grooming now, not an unconscious habit. I'm usually fairly conscious about doing it.

And apparently I was right. Not biting them doesn't bother me in general, but having any kind of nails messes up my typing! Using a computer is annoying to me with any kind of nails :(

Over a month later, I haven't put my nails in my mouth. I wonder how long I have to do it to prove a point, I miss having ubershort nails and I hate the feeling of clippers!

I stopped for a good two weeks, but have since relapsed. Bit two of my nails to the point where pressure against them hurts. Typing is semi-painful when your thumb/pointer are in pain when being used

As someone who bites their nails, DON'T GIVE IN. You know it stinks.

I bite my nails, but, like iago, not as a nervous habit.

I stopped for a while to see if I could and only started again because I find clippers annoying and far less convenient.

It doesn't stink! I actually prefer it. Not to the point where you do it, though - it's more of a grooming thing than a nervous habit or anything. I find it more annoying to type with longer nails. Also, I'm always having to clean them now. Every time I scratch myself while I'm sweating or in some way unclear, I get gross crud under them and have to clean them out.

I'm with Sidoh on this one. I stopped for a month and am fine. Maybe I'll go another month to prove the point. Or maybe I'll go till my birthday (a bit under two months).

Maybe all these years of nail-biting has prevented you from developing noteworthy nail-clipping skillz? Two clips for each nail, one on each side, meeting in the middle with less than 1mm overlap... gets them mofuggahs as short as you need.

The gross crud that gathers underneath is exactly why I don't want my nails near my mouth, and I hate the scratchy feeling of bitten nails on my clothes/bedsheets.

All those years of clipping your nails has prevented you from developing noteworthy nail-biting skillz? Notch out one side at the appropriate location, and peel it off all the way around. Perfect length, totally smooth. :)

Exactly!

I like nail-biting because it takes less effort/care to do it. If you're not careful with clippers, you end up cutting something too short. This is not true with biting.

I sense a deep rift beginning to form, splitting down the middle of the fundamental principles this Clan was found upon.

I hope for your sake, iago and Sidoh, that your resistance to change your barbaric, nail-biting ways does not seal our fate as another toppled over, forgotten internet forum.

Wait, I'm confusing myself... is this a disadvantage or an advantage?

Interesting research results.. I messed up cutting a nail yesterday and had to fix it with my teeth (no clippers handy). i discovered that the nails are quite a bit thicker/stronger than they used to be. More like my toenails (which I clip).
