What do you refer to when you say "it" as in "it is unquestionably unethical". Are you referring to any form of stealing, as in, every form of stealing is illegal? Including downloading music illegally and pirating software? Or do you exclude downloading music illegally and pirating from stealing?

And then the question: What's the difference, ethically, between shoplifting and downloading music illegally? Consider the particular case of downloading music illegally from a struggling band in contrast to shoplifting from Walmart's. Do you think both are unethical? Consider the possibility that the illegal downloading is more unethical, as the loss is much more significant for the band than it is for an excessively rich retail chain like Walmart.

So basically, if they can't prove that the person taking the extra change was aware of it, the person would have to return the money (restitution). If there is proof that the person taking the extra change was aware of it (committing a wrong) then there would be an obligation for compensation (analogous to penalties for stealing).

I think we can pretty much deduce from the content of this article that Hagen's action does qualify for stealing not only ethically but also by the law, as the law implies that knowingly taking the extra change is a wrongdoing that can result in legal consequences requiring compensation.

Anyway, I'm going to say this: the average IQ is 111 (IIRC), and I'm fairly sure most of us are decently above that.  Average, however, means that there are a lot of people both below and at that IQ level.  Mistakes happen.  I've entered $50 instead of $5 a couple times, and I think that if I were someone of Average IQ, I would have taken what the display told me (IE: change $45.05 instead of $0.05) and given incorrect change.  Luckily, I've caught myself both times that's happened (just to let you know, $5 is entered 500 [CASH] and $50 is 5000 [CASH], an easy mistake to make if you're tired or even if your finger slips).  Newer cashiers are even more susceptible to making mistakes because they are, well, new.

And stores like WalMart only make 1 or 2 cents profit for every dollar spent, so every dollar lost IS a big deal.  If you come back and say "Hey, your cashier gave me extra change", odds are you'll get a "Thanks very much" instead of a pair of handcuffs.

I trust that the dealer would rape me otherwise as they just quoted me $30 for a key, $40 or $50 for the FOB, and another $40 for programming both. $40 to program this stuff? Gay as hell.

The school superfucked my brother's schedule up.

I have periods 1-5. He has 2-7. This makes carpooling very, very difficult, since I not only go to school an hour earlier than him, but get out 2 hours earlier than he does! My councilor and his councilor are morons.

He has basically all remedial classes even with 90-100% percentiles for his standardized testing last year. He has general science (basically remedial science, biology = college prep, there is no honors), college prep geometry (when he was the highest grade in his algebra 1 class), and he not only REQUESTED honors english/history and did the summer assignment for it, but he didn't get it either. So basically, he's in stupid classes when he's actually halfway smart.

So, to sum up: my councilors are dipshits. We're calling in to complain that they're fucking retards. Maybe they'll fix it?

Throw his counselor's position (as well as judgement) into question, then.  In other words, tell them to do their job.  If that has no effect, take it to the higher-ups and argue that the schedule he's been given won't provide much academic stimulation, at least according to the grades on his transcript.
