See that lit window, that's where I was sound asleep when this happened. Some dumbass (If he wasn't drunk I'd be surprised) hit the sign in front of my complex, and one of these pillars (which are solid brick, not hollow, and are planted about 1.5ft in the ground) fell on my car. I got a phone call from the police around 1:30, went outside and saw this. Apparently the guy tried to leave the scene but my neighbor heard it & called the cops.

That sucks pretty hard.  You shouldn't have insurance problems for that, though, huh?
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

Mine which is why this sucks.

His insurance has to pay for it but I still have my deductible, and loss of my car for awhile.

Insurance = scam. We pay into a system that rarely, if ever, helps us out.

If his insurance didn't cover yours... you'd probably be SOL!

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I thought you had a truck trust?

Shouldn't cost you anything; you only pay the deductible when your insurance covers something.

I guess that's what is happening. The Allstate lady said I had to pay the deductible but I guess that's not the case. I'm getting my rental car tomorrow which I'll have for the next 2 weeks or so. I got a copy of the police report and apparently he also did $2500 in damage (estimate) to the property (sign, etc.). So he has that plus whatever my car's going to cost, plus towing, plus rental car, plus towing+repair for his car.

Heh.. insurance has come in handy quite a bit for me. One of the main reasons I've been able to put so much money into modifying my car is because of luck and insurance.

Insurance is helpful and reassuring because everything gets taken care of. I had a brick pillar fall on my car and I was able to handle it rationally and calmly because insurance will do everything for me. The repair, tow truck, rental, etc. are all taken care of.

Of course, insurance will destroy the other guy...but for me, I'm happy with it.
