Who do you accept?
« on: September 01, 2005, 09:17:48 pm »
* Newby shrugs.

Quote
1. I noticed on your rules page you do not separate forum members from clan members.
2. Your battle.net channel never has more then 3 members talking at once.. And there are way to many idling bots, in my opinion.

Next, a few questions:

1. Are there any non-x86 users in your clan (Mac OS X, at the moment, I know its switching to x86)?
2. Is this strictly a development clan? Are there non-"techy" people in this clan?
3. Would you accept, based only on there posts, iago as a member?
4. Ergot?
5. Newby?
6. Ajan?
7. Ryan Marcus?
8. Blaze?

1. Bleh. The non-clan-members of the forums are subject to common sense. Maybe we should write rules...

The non-clan members of the forums are (for the most part) mature enough to realize when they would be doing something stupid that members / admins do not like. No rules to keep them in line are necessary as of yet...

(Plus, rules often create more problems than they solve.)

2. Blame iago. Blame me too. We take up about 50% of the channel!

Most of us have school / stuff to attend to in real life. So, we idle bots in the occasion that we will stop by once in a while, read the back chat, and contribute to the channel!
1. Uh, I'm not sure if anybody really likes using a Macintrash. :P I'm pretty sure Joe uses PPC (Ubuntu). Other than that, nobody I know of in the clan uses non-x86 boxes (including SPARC and whatnot...)

Does AMD64 / IA-64 / x86-64 count as x86? If not, a few members here more than likely use 64-bit PCs, so I guess they count as non-x86. :|

2. This clan is not a development clan! We did not want to come off like that. We're more of a brotherhood than we are a programming clan like vL or fe and such. I (and hopefully other members) feel the clan will live longer if members in it like each other a whole lot and candidacy isn't judged off of extremely good technical computer skills. If one of us can't program very well or has issues with a computer, we don't care at all. If they need help, they'll get help.

The problem with programming clans is that when they become inactive or they start dying, the group of people that want to join is often immensely smaller than the group of people wanting to join a dying clan based on friendship (since, oh say, a members' friend (who could be the most computer illiterate bastard on the planet) could join and be the member that saves the clan from death.) in my opinion.

3. iago as a member of x86? Based off his post count? No. We do not base membership off of posts. IF a member contributes a lot, they are well liked by the clan and would most likely make it in. So, in a sense, if you post good quality posts (quality > quantity) you are more likely to make it into the clan.
4. No. See above.
5. No. This kid sucks balls. I hope he rots in Hell! Err, wait....
6. Nope.
7. Nope.
8. Nope.

I hope that answers your questions. :P
Gooooooooooo Newby!

I DIDNT START THIS THREAD.

No... Really its not me... Check the IPs.. its not me. Is it?

I ran some form of "SOCKS" program for him, I have no idea what it is.. His battle.net name is Clan_Rate (USWest, he is always on WC2/SC).

If I wanted to make something secret, I would not have included my name in the list, and I would have VNCed to my friends computer and posted.

Whats "SOCKS"?
Thanks, Ryan Marcus

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Oh, so just something he made then?
Just takes a screenshot of your desktop every 3 minutes (based on the interval), and sends it to a remote host (his choice). Nothing to worry about.

Why would you accept a random file from someone?
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

SOCKS is a proxy protocol. In other words, you just handed your computer over to him, in a limited way.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

Ryan, for future refrences NEVER accept files from someone you do not know/trust..
The once grove of splendor,
Aforetime crowned by lilac and lily,
Lay now forevermore slender;
And all winds that liven
Silhouette a lone existence;
A leafless oak grasping at eternity.

He said he needed it for his site, so I ran it. I trust him, I have talked to him over the phone. I asked him if it would harm my computer, and he said no.

Basically, this thing allows him to use my IP, in a sense Does not matter now, closed that port.
Thanks, Ryan Marcus
