TI-Basic
« on: September 04, 2005, 04:37:33 pm »
Does anyone know of any good sites to learn it (that don't link you to 500.000 other pages), and do you recommend learning it? Math class is boring [already] and my school books suck [CPM = shit], so I can play games on my calculadora.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Umm... guys... Joe is 100% right!

TI-Basic is no where close to basic!

For example:

No dot notation, no objects, no classes.

Code: [Select]

:A+X->A

:Disp A

No dot notation, no objects, no classes.

Code: [Select]
:ClrHome
:Lbl 1
:getKey A
:While A=0
:getKey A
:End
:ClrHome
:Disp A
:Goto 1

No dot notation, no objects, no classes, whiles not ended with a wend.

Of course, there are more defining attributes then that to basic, but those are some. The only thing basic-ish I can find is the use of a GoTo command..
Thanks, Ryan Marcus

TI-BASIC is a form of BASIC.  BASIC isn't all OOP, it's just a simple, high-level instructional language.  You're defining all BASIC by using RealBASIC or Visual BASIC as a standard, when in fact they are offshoots and extended versions of the original BASIC.

@deadly: The TI instruction booklet taught me everything I needed to know, but if you want a website, this is a good one.

Do you need like a compiler or some program of some sort, or would notepad suffice?

Why not learn z80? It's more of a real language.

Compiler if needed, and link if you could find one? The only reason i don't google it is cause you people know if it's a full tutorial rather then something that tells you 1/10th of what you need to know

TI-83+ and that series work very well with z80; Darkness is talented with it. He has a link for a tutorial for it on ticalc.org I believe, we can see if he'll look at this topic and provide some insite. ;)

I'm getting either a TI-83 or a TI-89, and the book said so. To answer the second question: Geometry is quite possibly the most boring class on the face of the universe, so games can distract me.

I got out of geometry with an A-.

Trust me, algebra 2 is much better.

Still, both suck, and video games help to pass the time!

Also, who cares if you don't have a calculator yet? Learn the languages!

On a side note, isn't TI-Basic an interpreted language, technically? Since it's never really compiled until you run it...

I dunno, I was just thinking about that in an attempt to distract myself from this boring essay.

TI-Basic is pretty straight forward. If you understand BASIC and the basic (no pun intended) operations of the calculator (the catalog, I mean) then it should be a piece of cake.

On a side note with the discussion on calculators, The TI-89 Titanium kicks ass. I really want to get one, having a TI-83+ Silver myself. Well, I'll get it when I go to college or something. It'll be a worthwile upgrade.

86? I'm not sure abou 86. You might want to look at http://ticalc.org Look through some of their archives and go to source codes. After transferring them to your calculator, you can view the source codes. I'm not sure about computer though. You're going to need TI Software to do that. It comes with a programmer (:

I would stay with an TI-83 or something around that area IF you plan on taking ACT.  But, if not go for the goal!!
The once grove of splendor,
Aforetime crowned by lilac and lily,
Lay now forevermore slender;
And all winds that liven
Silhouette a lone existence;
A leafless oak grasping at eternity.
