Its actually returning different results for most everything. Try "grass" for example in the image search. I also fail to see anything even remotely funny about it.

I do. Grass returns different results? Why would China censor grass? lol!

Is it censored, or just different? 

Could be just a different index / priority. :P

It turns out that this problem was due to case-sensitivity:

I like using Linux, yes.  And, in general, I like case sensitivity, but not when case sensitivity allows you to get around filters.  If part of it is case sensitive, then all of it should be. 

Besides, Google promises that all searches are "NOT case sensitive".

It's much more likely that they screwed up their filter, and they filter BEFORE they convert toLower() and not after.
