This is an awesome article I read in Science News.  Science News is a really great magazine, by the way.  If you enjoy math/science, you should consider subscribing. :)

This article is on Number Theory and how a young mathematician figured out some proofs for old properties of quadratic equations that represent all positive integers (and all odd positive integers and prime integers, too).  I was really impressed by this.  It's only further compelled me to study Number Theory in college.

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to merge the two pages without massive distortion.

Nice.  I like how mathematicians name their work now.  The "29-step Shortcut" might intrest some people otherwise disgusted with math.

There are lots of mathematical laws/properties that are named simple things.  It's nothing new, really.  Just because they're using familiar words doesn't mean people are going to strike up a new zest for mathematics.

Would The Pythagorean Therom fall under that catogery?

Pythagoreus isn't a very commonly used name.  Theorem isn't really either.  I was thinking more along the lines of distance formula, point-slope formula and things along these lines.

Also, number theory is a very specific niche in mathematics.  If you can't appreciate or realize (or otherwise conjure a care for) the beauty of the properties our infinite sets of numbers form, there's little reason to study it.  It's not an extremely applicable branch of mathematics.

Personally I hate math period. We were studying up on that today. I also rember Point-slope form. Y= Mx +B. I use to love solving those on a graph. But another then that it never fancy me. I like more history base classes anyways. We are currnetly studying up on WWI about the black hand. Pretty cool.

The zest for mathematics is a pretty uncommon trait.  I'm not giving you a quiz, I'm just naming a few mathematical rules/properties/sections that have common words in them.

I've always heard point-slope form referred to as slope-internet form. :|

They're not the same thing.

y = mx + b isn't point-slope form.  Point-slope form is (y - y1) = m(x - x1).

I assumed zero was right. I'd never heard of it. :P

What do you mean you assumed zero was right?  If you've never heard of it, either you don't pay attention or your books suck so much they should be illegalized.

My teacher always says that pythagorean theorem and point-slope form are the two single greatest ideas in mathematics.

Just a side note, you need to get away from the computer deadly. It's slope-intercept, not slope-internet. =p

I assumed ZeroX was correct when he said that point-slope form is "y=mx+b."  Also, I've never heard of it, and I don't pay attention.  My books also suck ass.  College Prepatory Mathematics sucks, I hate it.  They take a billion years to explain how to move parabolas, when I figured out how to in Algebra 1 at the end of the semester.  Though, after this semester of Alg 2 (one term left, really) I don't have to use it EVER AGAIN! WOOHOOOOO! Next year I'll be in a college-ish textbook for my Honors Pre Calculus class. =)

Shut up, I'm tired.  I've been to sleep at 2am every day this week, and I have an intense track workout every day.
