I think it is the governments job to protect AT&T. They were doing what they were asked to by the government.

So they get caught, sued, and the government basically says "yeah they're guilty, let's drop this."

Your government is in place to protects your rights and freedom, not to question and remove them.  But that's an entirely different topic. 

AT&T was doing what they were told to do by the NSA, so anything bad that happens as a result should be looked after by the NSA.  Unless I'm understanding the situation wrong?
