SMF2RSS
« on: May 05, 2006, 06:26:18 pm »
After about 30 minutes of work, I was capable of producing this: http://marcusfamily.info/~ryan/SMF2RSS.zip

It takes all the posts on a SMF board and turns it into a RSS feed.

Example feed: http://marcusfamily.info/~ryan/rss/

There is still a lot of work to be done, but it is getting there! :)
Thanks, Ryan Marcus

You do realize SMF already has an RSS feed, right?

Isn't it a plugin you need to install?

Hehe.. really? I looked for it in the help and could not find it and I searched the offical mod database and found nothing...

You can export the board as RSS, but that is not a live feed. Even if it was built in, I plan on adding quiet a few things to my little script..
Thanks, Ryan Marcus

No.  It comes standard with RC2 1.1.

I gaurentee it's built in with RC2 1.1.  I'm subscribed to three feeds from RC2 1.1 boards, two of which were freshly installed a few months ago.

Hmmm.. Lesson learned.

Thanks!

Don't let it discourage you.  Perhaps you could build onto what's already been done?  The fact that it marks you as online/logged in when you update the feed is pretty annoying.

Yeah but that could be an easy fix, most likely.

If he's just getting the RSS feed and not actually online, then he's not actually online...?

I have no reason to close Opera.  I leave it running as long as my computer is on (which is true unless there's a power outage, I'm restarting or some other related failure).  Opera is also my e-mail client.  I like waking up in the morning and checking my mail.

Sorry, I don't see reason to comply.  Perhaps if it was for a reason other than your own failure, I'd think about it. :P

Of the 4 browsers I've used fairly extensively, I'd personally rate IE the worst. :P

I'll admit it's not nearly as bad as most windows haters make it out to be, but Opera, Firefox and Mozilla are better, in my opinion.

I'm so used to IE7 now that I hate IE6.  I just wish they'd fix the Ctrl+Tab behavior in IE7 to be consistent with... every other Windows program ever made.

I've used Firefox and Konqueror quite (kwite?) a bit, but I just don't have enough motivation to switch to either one permanently.  Because I already know the conventions used elsewhere, it's more of a pain to use one.  And since I don't go to teh war3z sitez l00king for tEH hax0rz, I don't worry about getting browser-jacked.

I haven't used IE7 at all.  I won't judge it.  I will definitely give it a try, but I highly doubt that I'll like it more than Opera.

That's what kept me from using something other than IE for a while.  I chose a semi-short period of time that I would force myself to use a non-Microsoft browser (about two weeks).  Shortly after, I found myself reluctant to use IE at all.  After reading that somewhat neutral (but invalid) article on browsers, I was even more compelled to try other browsers.  Since it recommended Opera for a lot of things, I figured I'd give it a shot.  I LOVE OPERA.  'nuff said.

I've seen IE7, but I don't recal using it (although I might have, while shopping with Tory). The new tab functionality makes it like 500% better than IE6, but the security holes, assuming they're patched, and the existance of firefox makes me not want to bother switching. Assuming I even used Windows in the first place.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

I've tried Opera, used IE6 and Firefox.  Out of the three I prefer Firefox, there's just something about Opera I don't like.

There are multiple toolbars that add tabbed functionality to IE6.  I wouldn't doubt that some computers come equipped with such toolbars.

I've tried Opera, used IE6 and Firefox.  Out of the three I prefer Firefox, there's just something about Opera I don't like.

I like Opera because it's much more centralized.  To me, it's interface is vastly superior.  I don't mind Firefox -- I still prefer it to IE6, but there are quite a few reasons I like Opera more than I do Firefox.
