Back to basics

well I want my linux back. I have done without it for a while. I finally have time to install it.

The problem is I have it all installed it's just when I startup and it gets to the lilo boot screen my usb keyboard locks up. I have a ps2 keyboard connected also so I can select the os, this is just temp until I can fix the problem with my usb keyboard.

Any suggestions?

Locks up, as in stops responding?

That's odd. It sounds like a BIOS problem...

The BIOS would bitch if the keyboard wasn't detected. LILO simply can't detect the keystroke from his USB keyboard.

Are you sure LILO is compatable with the "Human Interface Device"?

I can safely say for a fact that most computers I have worked with have not bitched if the keyboard was unplugged at boot. :|

LILO is compatible with USB keyboards. I am positive I use one at home.

GRUB didn't like my USB keyboard until I enabled it in the BIOS (interestingly, neither did the Vista bootloader, although the XP bootloader dealt with it perfectly).

My server spits out a message (if keyboard is not present):

 "Keyboard not detected.  Press F1 to continue."

It's really annoying since the PS2 port seems to be a bit picky. :/

In any case, there's probably a BIOS option to ignore such absence.
