You know what's funny?  The state highways here in Arizona are state public land.  Ironically, though, there are signs at every entrance that says that trespassing is prohibited.  I work at a public facility.  We have an alarm system and when I'm the last employee out I arm it.  I know that if you were to enter my facility after hours you could be charged with trespassing.
There were no signs what so ever.
There aren't any signs at my facility either.  It would still be trespassing.  Imagine!
Imagine if your facility was an open area of dirt! ;)

U-joint is a joint commonly used on driveshafts that are angled, or in manual/hydrolic steering columns. And I don't understand how someone could break both of them without driving like a dumbass. Steel generally doesn't just break. There's usually a reason for it.
Technically, I guess, he only broken (snapped) the rear one, he somehow managed to mess up his front joint (it still functioned partially, but made an odd clanging sound when he was driving) when coming down off the hill after breaking the rear.

Hmm, did he "snap" the driveshaft or the joint?

The noise also could have come from some sort of front-rear positraction deal in the gearbox, I dunno', not much of a 4wd person.
The douchebag method:

Chevy, mmm, I LOVE my dad's 97 Silverado.  The seats are infinitly more comfortable than mine and the quality of workmanship is better also.  I bet the new Chevys arent as good as the old though :(

Rear ujoint, messed up front ujoint (he said).
I dont think his Jeep had a positract system, it would be lockers all around (if I understand you right).  He could still drive on the front wheels, but it made a nasty sound.
