I just installed Slack again, and in my terminal (actually, everywhere), the display is wanky.  In the terminal, all the text is fine, but it's about an inch left of where it should be.  In WM all I can see is the top-left area (though I can still see the context menus).

Also, my mouse doesn't work.  I configured it for PS/2 and all, but I can't get it to work.  Argh.

On a lighter note, I did get my internet configured properly on the first try this time.

Uhh, don't do a framebuffer. Do VESA (the safe fallback iirc) and that may solve it. Otherwise just pick a framebuffer with a higher resolution.

(It was in setup, I don't know how you'd configure it at this point. liloconfig?)

Try the protocol auto (love my tags?) and if that fails, well, see that it's pointing to a proper device.

(Inside the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf for this one.)

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Is there a button on your monitor to move the display?  If there is, use it :P

To change your startup resolution, type liloconfig -- like Newby said
To configure your mouse, use mouseconfig
To configure X, use xorgconf, xorgcfg, or xorgsetup (they all do the same thing, I believe)

Good luck!

rabbit

The wankyness was all the monitor's fault.  I'm still working on the mouse (mouseconfig didn't fix it).

iago

I've very rarely had problems with mouses, but xorgconfig will let you switches mouses too.  But mouses should universally work...

rabbit

Well, I DID fix my mouse, but now it's time to go looking for that bootdisk again...

When referring to the computerized version, I prefer putting an 's' on the end.  It's the same as using 'viruses' when referring to the computer kind.
