Cliff 'Em All! (1987)
« on: May 03, 2007, 01:37:08 am »
From the back of the tape:
Well we finally went and did what we always talked about not doing, releasing a vid!! Before you throw up in disgust let us (except K...) tell you the idea behind this. First of all this is not your typical shit home vidio (its worse) done with a high-tech ten camera production and sound, its a compilation of bootleg footage shot by sneaky Metallixfux, stuff shot for TV that was never used, but we held on to, home footage, personal fotos & us drunk. But most important, its really a look back at the 3 1/2 years that Cliff was with us and includes his best bass solos and the home footage & pix, that we felt best capture his unique personality & style. The quality in some places ain't that happening but the feeling is there and thats what matters!!

Basically, it's a collection of videos of songs performed live (listed below). Like the description said, the quality wasn't happening in some places but mostly it wasn't bad. The biggest thing you'll notice is every once in a while a frame will be missing (one will show for twice as long as it should), or the whole video will scroll up one screen length (you'll see what I mean if you watch it, like when your TV is out of focus), and when a bright light (ex: camera flash) is shown, it'll stay in that spot for a second or two even if the camera moves. Thank God for master tapes recorded in the 80's, eh? :)

Personally, I enjoyed it. I wanted it to be more about Cliff himself, but actually the whole band was featured equally pretty much (except two bass solos and the outro pictures), since most of the footage is bootleg taken by fans who had no clue Cliff would die soon and their footage would be used in a video about him. Either way, I'd rate it about 7 or 8 out of 10, since for what they had to master it from, it was good quality and content.

Song list:
1986 -- Creeping Death
1986 -- Am I Evil?
1986 -- Damage, Inc.
1986 -- Master of Puppets
1983 -- Whiplash
1985 -- The Four Horsemen
1985 -- Fade to Black
1985 -- Seek and Destroy
1986 -- Welcome Home (Sanitarium), followed by a bass solo
1985 -- For Whom The Bell Tolls
1983 -- No Remorse
1983 -- Metal Militia

A few things to look for:
- In one of the interview, Dave Mustaine is featured shortly, saying something along the lines of "I'm Dave Mustaine and I play lead guitar", as well as "I was inspired by Motorhead and Diamondhead"
- In the intro to For Whom The Bell Tolls, Cliff doesn't play the E2 E2 R E2 E2 E0sus featured on the album.
- For Whom The Bell Tolls, on tour, was usually preceded with a variation of (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth. This was no exception -- you can hear the outro of it in this video.
- After No Remorse (or was it Metal Militia?), a caption comes up saying "Check out this shit!!" and then shows a scene where Kirk Hammet plays behind his back for a bit, walks up to the edge of the stage without his strap on and lowers his guitar down over the audience where someone grabs it and about 5 people fight over it. A stage hand eventually jumps in and gets it back, and by the the time he's back on the stage with it, Kirk is already coming out from backstage with an identical guitar, smiling and shaking his head.
- There were actually two bass full bass solo's in there, I just forgot where the other one was.

By the way, you can get this on Amazon.com for about $5 shipped, so if you're even slightly interested, buy it.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

Meh, I hated this video. Especially after watching how gay Kirk looks when he tries drinking a beer. I'd recommend it if you're a Metallica fan boy.
