So I went to the Hampden-Sydney vs. Virginia Wesleyan basketball game last night with my mom and friend, just because I wanted to support Hampden-Sydney. Also to see this alumni I know who goes to all my highschools basketball games and saw me with my hat one night and struck conversation with me and decided to call the dean about me. (He worked as the priest at the college too for many years.) He ended up not showing up though, but that's ok!
As it turns out, the dean of admissions came to the game...as well as the assistant dean of admissions assigned to my area and his friends. So, it was nice seeing and talking to them in an informal setting. They both said how I'm a "great kid" and said how things will hopefully work out for me. The assistant dean I really like and got excited when I saw him walk in, it's easy to relate to him because he's a 2005 grad so he's not much older than me which makes it more comfortable talking to him.
Anyway, so at halftime I go to get popcorn and some guys stop me because I had my Hampden-Sydney sweatshirt on and strike conversation. I tell them how I'm a prospect and as it turns out, one of them grew up on the same street as me, went to the same middle school, and went to the same high school. He's now on the Alumni committee for the college, in charge of Admissions. Score. He paid for my popcorn and water and said he'd talk to the dean and assistant dean about me. As it turns out, he talked to the assistant DoA during the game and he said he'd follow up about me. I also met this prominent attorney here, who just happens to be on the board of trustees.
I definitely feel a little more secure. Hampden-Sydney lost rather badly, but I think I did quite well.
Edit: I bet this turns into a 2 page discussion on how I'm receiving favorable treatment from the admissions and alumni committees.
