twitter is gay IMO.  People who use it are attention whores.  like I care that you just shat on your cat.
I tend to edit my topics and replies frequently.

I think Twitter is a lot like blogs in the sense that they started out as annoying people posting about stupid things, but have developed into something that's somewhat useful.

The advantage to blogs is that they're decentralized, while Twitter is controlled by a company. I don't like that.

Yeah. I tested it (sent "hmm"), then subscribed to some people that were constantly sending out updates about the status of the fires. This way, I didn't have to wait on the news to get valuable information. People went around and tweeted about where the fires were, if they were growing, etc.

The San Diego fire IRC chat was very useful because they automatically posted all the twitters and were twittering any information people could provide in the chat that they didn't want to twitter themselves.

I agree. I just made one two nights ago, I had made one before but I thought the idea was dumb. Now it seems like it has some merit. Like I said, it seems useful for networking. I use it to connect to different entrepreneurship related things (speakers, entrepreneurs, blogs, advice, etc.). I also made one for this company I work at to connect with the niche market areas they target. Nobody that I've seen on there (although I'm sure they're abundant) are posting things like "eating spaghetti" or something. A large portion are just interesting links or quotes or something.

Note that I said "somewhat" useful -- to me, the signal:noise ratio is a mess. There's wayyyy too much stuff on there that I just plain don't care about.

I really dislike the attention-grubbing solipsistic narcissism that Twitter promotes and enables.  There may be some peripheral benefits, but I think the world would be better off without it.

Hahaha.  That's a great description of it.

It's promoted and advertised that way, but I don't think it's the only use -- for example, if somebody just uses it to post/propagate interesting links, that's not really that bad.

I totally know what you mean and agree with it, though :D

Does anybody have a pen/tablet for their computer? If so what do you use it for? I got one of the small Bamboo ones but the more I think about it I don't really have a need. I was hoping to use it somehow with webdesign.

How does that compare to the bamboo? I have the $70 one.

Mines larger, more sensitive (1024 pressure levels), supports barrel tilt and has more nibs for the pen.  Other than that, they're pretty much the same.

For web design, yours should be sufficient for anything you'd be working on.

Edit:  Don't get me wrong, the bamboo is amazing for the price.  Mine cost a lot.  :(
